The Trenkwalder Group AG was founded in 1985 and is based in Vienna . The company offers personnel services in 14 European countries . Trenkwalder grew through numerous acquisitions at home and abroad and has more than 200 locations . The company is the market leader in Austria and Hungary . It has been part of the Droege Group since 2011 .

Company history

1985 to 2002

The engineer Richard Trenkwalder founded the company in 1985 in Schwadorf . Through professional activities abroad, he was familiar with the leasing of specialists. He initially ran his company with around 30 employees. Trenkwalder is one of the companies that has had a license for personnel leasing since 1988 , when it was granted for the first time in Austria.

The company expanded in its home country through the establishment of branches and the takeover and partial takeover of competitors in Austria. In 1998 Trenkwalder ranked third behind Austrian Manpower (today: Powerserv ) and Adecco , and in 2000 it rose to become the market leader in Austria.

In 1992 Trenkwalder opened its first foreign branch in the Slovak capital, Bratislava . The company has been active in Germany and Hungary since 1999 . In the following year, the company entered the Czech Republic and Italy , and in 2001 the company entered the Slovenian market .

From 1998 to 2000 Trenkwalder was one of the fastest growing companies in Europe every year. However, the growth of the company stalled in 2001 and 2002. In 1993 the company had 80 employees, the turnover was 80 million ATS ; In 2002 Trenkwalder had 7,000 employees and generated sales of 192 million euros. The previous rapid growth led to turbulence. In addition, a large part of the management in Italy migrated to a competitor at short notice.

2003 to 2011

At the beginning of 2003, the German Capiton AG took over 25.4 percent of the company shares for EUR 10 million. This stake strengthened Trenkwalder's equity and enabled further expansion. In 2003 the company started its activities in Croatia . In October 2003 Trenkwalder acquired the majority in the Multi-Man Group and thus rose to become the market leader in Hungary. In 2004 the company also achieved market leadership in Slovakia. In the following year, Trenkwalder succeeded in becoming the largest provider in its industry by taking over part of Kappa People in the Czech Republic. In November 2005, the company entered the Polish market by purchasing a majority stake from a Polish provider (Partner Sp. Z oo). Trenkwalder also started business in Romania and Serbia in 2005 . The partial takeover (80 percent) of MSE Personal Services AG marked the market entry in Liechtenstein at the beginning of 2006 . Activities in Switzerland also began in 2006, including the acquisition of City Job AG and the PL Group the following year. In 2007 Trenkwalder expanded into the markets of Bulgaria , Montenegro , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Macedonia and Turkey .

In 2007, Trenkwalder also bought back the shares in Capiton AG for EUR 50 million. In the year of this buyback, the group structure also changed: Trenkwalder International AG acted as a holding company for international business, business in Austria was outsourced to a separate company, Trenkwalder Personaldienste GmbH . The start of business activities in Greece and Albania followed in 2008, the year in which Trenkwalder, with around 70,000 employees in 450 branches, achieved sales of more than 1 billion euros.

The global financial crisis hit Trenkwalder at the end of 2008 / beginning of 2009: The group was forced to cut 30,000 jobs. Business only picked up again from the second quarter of 2009, so that the number of employees at the end of 2009 was 53,000. Sales in the 2009 financial year amounted to 790 million euros. In the following year, the company was looking for a financial investor and agreed an extensive financing package with the banks at the end of the year.

Since 2011

The investor he was looking for was finally found in 2011: The Düsseldorf-based Droege Group and Trenkwalder reached an agreement shortly before Easter 2011 to sell more than 75 percent of the company's shares. At the end of 2010, Trenkwalder again had 70,000 employees and a turnover of around 1 billion euros. The sale took place in August 2011, after the due diligence and approval by the competition authorities and the supervisory board.

Since 2012, the company has been transforming itself from a temporary agency to a universal provider of all services in the field of human resources (HR). This includes, among other things, personnel planning , recruiting, consulting and taking on HR tasks and processes.

In 2017 the company changed its name: Trenkwalder International AG became Trenkwalder Group AG .

Business activity

The staffing division essentially includes temporary leasing and the placement of employees. In HR Services personnel-related services, such as payroll or applicant management are offered. As part of the HR consulting Trenkwalder supports the strategic human resource planning and labor market analysis for site selection, including regional labor market characteristics, labor availability, salary estimates and total labor costs. Trenkwalder Learning offers a wide range of mobile training in self-study and blended learning formats in more than 23 languages.

Cooperations

If tasks are to be solved jointly on the labor market, Trenkwalder works with national labor market administrations. One example of this is the cooperation between the Austrian subsidiary and the Public Employment Service (AMS).

Trenkwalder has been cooperating with Danube University Krems through its Austrian subsidiary for years : in 2008 the university course "Personnel Service Management" was established there. At the time, it was specially developed for Trenkwalder employees. The offer was an MBA course. A year later, the course was also aimed at people who were not part of the Trenkwalder staff. The offer continues to this day in a further developed form (status: October 2019).

criticism

In February 2013, Trenkwalder's German subsidiary came under fire. The occasion was the broadcast of a documentary by ARD about the working conditions, especially in the Amazon logistics center in Bad Hersfeld . Up to 5,000 seasonal workers from many European countries were affected by these . The allegations made in the documentation were directed both against Amazon, as well as against the online - mail order company on service providers to whom the German subsidiary of Trenkwalder belonged. With reference to Trenkwalder it was criticized: Temporary workers were only informed shortly before starting work in the logistics center that they were not employed directly by Amazon, but by Trenkwalder; the wages paid were twelve percent lower than promised; Deductions in kind for board and lodging were not shown on pay slips ; termination was possible within 24 hours. Volker Enkerts, President of the Federal Employers' Association of Personnel Service Providers (BAP), distanced himself from the reported practices in a press release: "We will not allow the image of our industry to be so damaged."

On February 16, 2013, Ursula von der Leyen , Federal Minister for Labor and Social Affairs , threatened to withdraw the license from Trenkwalder's German daughter. The Federal Employment Agency and the customs authorities carried out a special audit. On February 19, 2013, Trenkwalder rejected the allegations. They were responsible for recruiting 1,000, not 5,000, temporary workers. This went through the Federal Employment Agency, the usual collective wage was paid, and there was no net wage disadvantage for the leased employees. Overall, the special audit did not confirm the allegations. The employment agency contradicted this representation on February 20, 2013: Trenkwalder had violated the Temporary Employment Act.

In the aftermath of the ARD documentation, Amazon sold the company that provided the security personnel and the service provider responsible for transport and accommodation. On the other hand, Amazon stuck to Trenkwalder. According to Trenkwalder, the Federal Employment Agency's proceedings against the German subsidiary were still open in August 2013 and the allegations had not been substantiated.
