Trizinia-Methana ( Greek Τροιζηνία ( f. Sg. ) - Μέθανα ( n. Pl. )) Is a municipality on the Peloponnesian coast of the Saronic Gulf , which belongs to the Attic regional district of Islands . It is the only parish in the mainland Peloponnese belonging to Attica.

The municipality was formed during the administrative reform in 2010 from the existing municipalities of Trizina and Methana from 1834–1912 and 1997–2010 , initially named as the former province of Trizinia and renamed Trizinia-Methana by law of January 17, 2014.

Their administrative headquarters are in the opposite the island of Poros situated Galatas . Trizinia takes its name from the ancient Troizẽnia, which denoted the territory of the city of Troizẽn . In 1912 the communities were split into small rural communities, ten of which were merged again in 1997 to form communities of the old names. The place Damalas was renamed Trizina in 1929 after the ancient city, the remains of which can be found nearby. The now independent municipality of Poros belonged to Trizina from 1840 to 1912 and to the province of Trizinia until 1997.

Community structure

The ten municipalities that existed until 1997 have had the status of an urban district (Ez. Gr. Dimotiki kinotita ) - namely Galatas - or of local communities (topiki kinotita) since 2011 and elect a council or an individual representative as local representative, depending on the number of inhabitants. The population figures come from the results of the 2011 census.
