It is possible to drive most of the way up, parking at the fabulous Chalet D'Alpe. From here you can reach the summit via a well marked path in around 3 hours. The final third of the climb is a little scrambly but there are chains and ladders in all the difficult sections. Indeed this makes for a very exciting finale and may explain why so any children make the climb - we took our 5 year old. The views of Mt Blanc are brilliant.
