1st Yugoslav Football League 1988/89

The 1st Yugoslav Football League 1989/90 was the 61st season of the highest Yugoslav division in men's football . It began on July 29, 1989 and ended on May 16, 1990.

The Red Star Belgrade was the 17th time Yugoslav champion and took the fifth time the Double .

The game between FK Sarajevo and Dinamo Zagreb on matchday 30 had to be stopped after 47 minutes because the linesman was hit by a full beer can. It was rated 3-0 for Dinamo by the association. Sarajevo protested and achieved a replay. This game was played after the end of the season on July 31, 1990. Sarajevo won 1-0 and saved themselves on a non-relegation zone. In order not to punish the team from Velež Mostar, which is now on a relegation zone , the league was increased to 19 clubs for the following season.

mode

The 18 teams played against each other twice on a total of 34 match days, divided into a first and a second round. The bottom of the table was relegated.

Tied games were decided by penalty shootouts, with the winner receiving one point and the loser not receiving a point.
