7 dwarfs - the forest is not enough is a film comedy from 2006, which is intended as a sequel to the film 7 dwarfs - men alone in the forest by Otto Waalkes . The film contains motifs from various fairy tales , with the allusion to Rumpelstiltskin being the most striking. The title is a reference to the 1999 James Bond film The World Is Not Enough . In addition, reference is made to the film adaptations of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings .

action

Some time has passed since the events of the first part . Snow White is now queen and has had a child from the court jester, who has since left her. Evil appears in the form of Rumpelstiltskin in the castle and demands the surrender of the prince. Court servant Spliss had previously helped the magician nominee out of a predicament and promised the baby against full hair. When Snow White refuses to hand it over, Rumpelstiltskin gives her two days in which to find out his name. Otherwise he'll get the child. In her need she turns to her friends, the seven dwarfs .

In the dwarf house, however, Snow White only meets Bubi, who informs her that the other six friends have left to seek their fortune. What, however, only the viewer suspects at this point in time: Rumpelstiltskin is behind it, who has the ability to imitate the shapes and voices of other people. In Snow White disguise, it turned the dwarfs against each other. So Bubi sets out to reunite all the dwarfs and find out the name of evil.

After he has reunited the septet in a medieval town, they set off to see the only person who could know the name: the white Helge. The dwarfs find its dwelling abandoned. Only one message remained, which says that Helge has gone to the "Palace of the Fish". With the help of a magic book, a map and the talking magic mirror, the dwarfs immediately set off to where the palace should be: in the other world. However, this turns out to be the actual reality of a major German city (Hamburg).

Meanwhile, Rumpelstiltskin follows the progress of the dwarfs and tries again and again to prevent them from being successful through interventions and masquerades by other people (mostly German comedians). In addition, it has an alliance with the former queen, who now lives as a forgetful witch in a crispy house and works as a healer and therapist. From here Rumpelstiltskin starts his attacks on the dwarves, but fails again and again.

After an odyssey, the dwarves finally arrive at the “Palace of Fish”, which is just a fish stall wagon. The white Helge who runs it doesn't know the name either, to the disappointment of the seven, but gives them a clue who could help: the witch. The dwarfs then look for a magic mirror in the other world, through which they can return to their own universe.

When they arrive at the witch, the dwarfs are given the name they were looking for, which Rumpelstiltskin wrote down beforehand. However, by distraction and another disguise, he succeeds in slipping a forged document on the seven. In the end, the seven get to Snow White, Brummboss and the baby in the castle, where they first call Rumpelstiltskin the wrong name ("Frau Holle"). However, Bubi can say the correct name shortly before the ultimatum expires. He knew him from the start, but his friends never let him have a say.

This will save Snow White and the child and defeat evil. In addition, Spliss declares the horse trade null and void, since the promised head of hair has now fallen out again.

Extended version

Von Sieben Zwerge - The forest is not enough exists an extended version that has not yet been released on DVD or Blu-ray Disc .

Alternative scenes were used and a subplot was added. In the theatrical version, after the events with Udo Lindenberg and the tandem trip, you see a stylized map on which the path of the dwarfs through the city is shown as a dashed line. Then you reach the "Palace of the Fish".

In the Extended Version the map view is missing, but a new scene was added shortly after the tandem ride. Here you can see Rumpelstiltskin calling a man named Mario with a disguised voice . Mario is a showman and is looking for dwarf actors, whereby Rumpelstiltskin praises the seven dwarfs for him and “sends them over”. Mario matches the seven, gives them silly dwarf clothes and puts them as extras in the fairy tale theme park he runs. Here they are supposed to work in a scene with Snow White, embodied by Mario's grumpy wife. However, the dwarfs are by no means enthusiastic about their job. At the same time, Rumpelstiltskin sneaks into the park to spread strife in a Bubi masquerade and to get to the palace map. However, the dwarves can escape Mario and also remove the previously stolen card from him, while Rumpelstiltskin feels Mario's anger. Then it continues as in the cinema version in front of the “Palace of Fish”.

The final setting was changed accordingly, in which Rumpelstiltskin presented all of his masquerades to Snow White and the dwarfs. The Bubi-Alter-Ego was also inserted here.

There is also the version with an alternative ending, which is included as an extra on the film DVD. It advises how one should punish Rumpelstiltskin. The dwarfs make a suggestion and in the last shot you see Rumpelstiltskin appearing in a silly disguise in Mario's fairy tale park.

criticism

“... wants to entertain unconditionally, which he will without question succeed in with a young audience and adult viewers who simply forget their everyday worries and want to spend a fun evening. What one person finds terribly uncomfortable is a great pleasure for the other, after all, when it comes to humor, one can argue wonderfully. Viewers who liked the first part can plan a visit to the cinema without hesitation, fans of more subtle comedy should rather look elsewhere. It is not surprising that there is not much left of the once original and lively humor of the young Otto Waalkes, but it certainly leaves a slightly bleak impression on friends of his early work. "

" Number revue with differently successful gags and alienated fairy tale motifs that do not fit into a closed plot and lose in sometimes only moderately comical cameos by well- known comedy stars."

“Anyone who can look forward to small jokes will get their Christmas present here: Titanic founder Bernd Eilert and director Sven Unterwaldt will not shy away from any stupid silliness. The furnishings and special effects are very lovingly made for this. "

"Otto Waalkes and the Who's Who of German TV comedians do toddler theater - of a professional standard, but stupid for adults."
