The Qudos Bank Arena is a multi-purpose arena in Sydney Olympic Park in Homebush Bay , 16 kilometers from the center of the Australian city of Sydney , New South Wales , removed. It was one of the main sports venues for the 2000 Summer Olympics and the 2000 Summer Paralympics in the Sydney Olympic Park. The arena is located in the immediate vicinity of what was then the Olympic Stadium, Stadium Australia (today: ANZ Stadium ). It offers a maximum capacity for 21,000 spectators, including 52 VIP - boxes and is the largest entertainment venue in Australia. 2015 bought Affinity Equity Partners of the Nine Entertainment Co.
Surname
From its opening in November 1999 to May 2006, the hall was called the Sydney SuperDome. This was followed by the sponsor name of the Taiwanese computer company Acer with the Acer Arena . As of September 2011, the Australian telecommunications company Allphones owned the name rights. From then on, the multifunctional hall was called Allphones Arena . Since April 11, 2016, the arena has been named the Qudos Bank Arena. The name sponsor is Qudos Bank (previously: Qantas Credit Union)
history
The then Sydney SuperDome was designed and conceived by Abigroup Ltd. in collaboration with Obayashi Corporation . The construction project consisted of three parts. In addition to the SuperDome (190 million AUD ) there was a car park area called P1 with 3,400 spaces (25 million AUD) and the area, the plaza (25 million AUD), around the arena with an area of over 32,000 m 2 . A BOOT (Build Own Operate Transfer) contract was concluded for the event hall . In September 1997 the construction of the large Olympic hall began. Completed after 18 months, the opening was celebrated by the Prime Minister of New South Wales , Bob Carr , in November 1999. The Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti met at the festive event .
During the 2000 Summer Olympics, the Games of the Olympic Basketball Tournaments , from the quarterfinals onwards, took place in the Sydney SuperDome. Furthermore, the gymnastics and trampoline competitions were held in the sports facility. At the 2000 Summer Paralympics, games of wheelchair basketball competitions took place. From 1999 to 2002, the Sydney Kings basketball team from the NBL was based in the SuperDome. The Tennis Masters Cup made a stop in Sydney in 2001. The Australian Lleyton Hewitt defeated the French Sébastien Grosjean in three sets (6: 3, 6: 3, 6: 4) in the final . The Sydney Swifts ( CBL ) netball team played their games from 2001 to 2008 in the Olympic Hall. The games of the netball team of the NSW Swifts ( ANZ Championship ) have been played since 2008 . From August 7th to 16th, the 2015 Netball World Cup took place in the Sydney Arena. Other sporting events under the hall roof are u. a. Tennis , ice hockey , boxing , rodeo , motocross or wrestling ( WWE , WCW , WWA ).
In 2013, the Allphones Arena was ranked 11th worldwide in the Pollstar ranking among the event arenas in terms of ticket sales. In October 2014, the arena was nominated in the Top Arena category at the Billboard Touring Awards, alongside London’s O 2 Arena and New York’s Madison Square Garden . There are more than 10,000 parking spaces available in the Sydney Olympic Park. Up to two percent of the seating capacity can be made available for wheelchair users and accompanying persons. For visually impaired visitors, signs and signposts in 306 different color contrasts were distributed in the arena. A video cube with four video walls hangs under the roof of the hall . Another 200 TV screens are distributed in the arena.

In addition to the sporting events, there are mainly concerts . There are also family shows such as Cirque du Soleil , Disney on Ice , Ice Age Live , musicals , exhibitions , banquets , conferences , seminars and also political and religious gatherings.
