as-Salam al-Amiri
The national anthem of Qatar has consisted of the song "Long Live the Emir" ( Arabic السلام الأميري, DMG as-Salām al-Amīrī ). The text was written by Sheikh Mubarak bin Saif Al Thani (* 1953). The music was composed by Abdul Aziz Nasser Obaidan (* 1952). The occasion was the accession of the emir Sheikh Hamad bin Chalifa Al Thani to the throne . The anthem was first played in public in 1996.
The hymn celebrates the freedom and greatness of Qatar and calls on the people to lead the glorious path of their ancestors under the guidance of the Prophet. The phrase "who lifted up heaven" stands for God. This expression is used in the Koran ( sura 55 , verse 7).
