The current national anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran ( Persian سرود ملی جمهوری اسلامی ایران Sorud-e Melli-ye Dschomhuri-ye Eslami-e Iran [ ˈsoɾud ɛ melli je dʒomhuɾi je ɛslɑmi je iɾɑn ]) has been used since 1990. The music wascomposedby Hassan Riyahi , the text was written by Saed Bagheri. This replaces the former national anthem Payandeh Bada Iran , which had been used since 1980.

Its predecessors were Sorud-e Schahanschahi Iran (“Imperial Hymn of Iran”) and, after the fall of the monarchy, for a very short time from 1979 to 1980 the de facto folk song Ey Iran .
