as-Salam al-Malaki al-Urdunni ( Arabic السلام الملكي الأردني, DMG as-Salām al-Malakī al-Urdunnī 'the royal Jordanian hymn') is the national anthem of Jordan .
The national anthem has been in use since Jordan gained independence in 1946 . The text comes from the former Prime Minister Abd al-Munʿim ar-Rifaʿi . The music was composed by Abd al-Qadir at-Tanir.
Usually only a short version of the hymn is played, consisting of the first four lines; the full composition is only performed on special occasions such as the king's birthday. The hymn says “Oh! King of the Arabs, you have honor in your descent from the best prophet ”; an allusion to the fact that the Jordanian Hashimite kingdom is a sprawling clan of the Meccan tribe Quraish , to which the prophet Mohammed belonged.
