Negaraku
Negaraku is the national anthem of Malaysia . It was elected in 1957, at the time of the Malaya Federation when the country gained independence from Great Britain . The title means “my country” in Malay . The melody comes from the popular folk song Terang Bulan ("moonlight"), popular at the end of the 19th century , which was probably first used in 1902 as the national anthem of the Sultanate of Perak .
Sultan Abdullah of Perak, who until 1894 in exile on the 1877 Seychelles lived there heard the song La Rosalie by the French poet Pierre-Jean de Beranger (1780-1857) and brought the melody of the French song, from the Terang Bulan was in his return to the Malay Peninsula .
