geography

The church village is located south of the Wörnitz and is immediately surrounded by arable land and grassland. To the north, across the Wörnitz, lies Gerolfingen at the foot of the Hesselberg , and to the south, Irsingen . Approx. 1 km to the west behind the Lohfeld is the Römerpark Ruffenhofen . The Mittelhöhe corridor area is located in the southeast.

history

Aufkirchen was first mentioned in 1188 in the Seligenstadt Treaty as “Vfkirchin”. The place name means "To the high-lying church". At the same time the place was called "burgus" (= fortified place). The place was probably founded around 1170 by Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa as a royal city. In 1241, Aufkirchen was named as an imperial city in the imperial tax register , the precarie civitatum et villarum ("Request to cities and places"), one of the few medieval documents that provide information about the organization of royal territory and imperial property in the Hohenstaufen period (61st item de Rotenburc LXXXX mr. ( Iudei ibidem X mr.) 62. Item Iudei de Hallis VIII mr. 63. Item de Dinckelspuel XL mr. 64. Item de Fuhtwangen XX mr. 65. Item Ufkirchen nichil, quia conbusta est. 66. Item de Wizenburc XL mr.): Aufkirchen received a tax rebate because it was burned . Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian pledged the city to the Counts of Oettingen in 1336 . Since the pledge was no longer redeemed, Aufkirchen sank to a secondary market town, which was the seat of an upper office . Fires in 1634 and 1663 largely incinerated the town. Last but not least, the exile families from Austria who found a new home here as religious refugees took part in the reconstruction .

At the end of the 18th century there were 96 properties in Aufkirchen. The Fraisch within the market Etters was from Oettingen game bergischen Oberamt Aufkirchen perceived. Outside of the market it was controversial between the Oberamt Aufkirchen and the Ansbach Oberamt Wassertrüdingen . The village and community rulership was jointly taken over by the Oberamt Aufkirchen and the council of Aufkirchen. The sole landlord was the Oberamt Aufkirchen (1 mill, 1 house with brickworks, 1 widemhof , 1 building yard, 1 inn with brewery, 2 Sölden , 77 houses or small houses, 12 half houses). In addition to these properties there was a castle, an office building, a building yard house, a church, a rectory, a town hall, a gatehouse, a school house and a community pastor's house.

As a result of the municipality edict in 1809 was tax district and the Rural Municipality Aufkirchen made to the still Irsingen belonged. With the second community edict (1818) Irsingen broke away from the rural community. Aufkirchen was under the administration and jurisdiction of the media sub-court Aufkirchen and in the financial administration the Oettingen Rent Office (from 1850 to 1919 Wassertrüdingen Rent Office, renamed Wassertrüdingen Tax Office in 1919 , Gunzenhausen Tax Office 1932–1973 , Ansbach Tax Office since 1973 ). In 1819 the administration and jurisdiction was transferred to the Oettingen Lordship Court on this side of the Wörnitz , from 1820 to 1848 the Mönchsroth Lordship Court was responsible, which was converted into a court and police authority in 1848, which expired in 1850. From 1850 to 1879 jurisdiction lay with the District Court of Wassertrüdingen, from 1879 to 1956 the District Court of Wassertrüdingen was responsible, from 1956 to 1970 the District Court of Gunzenhausen and from 1970 to 1973 the District Court of Dinkelsbühl , which has been a branch of the District Court of Ansbach since 1973 . The administration was taken over by the newly created Dinkelsbühl district office in 1862 (renamed the Dinkelsbühl district in 1938 ). With the dissolution of the district of Dinkelsbühl in 1972, Aufkirchen came to the district of Ansbach. In 1961 the municipality had an area of 3.371 km². In the course of the regional reform in Bavaria (January 1, 1972) this was incorporated into Gerolfingen and lost its market status.
