Beaumont was a Canadian car brand owned by General Motors of Canada of Oshawa that existed from 1966 to 1969. This was mainly available in the Canadian market and offered mid-range vehicles .
history
The Beaumont originated from the Acadian Beaumont of the 1964 and 1965 model years and was based on the contemporary Chevrolet Chevelle . It had the body of the Chevelle, but with slightly different design elements, such as different taillights and a Pontiac-style split grille. The instrument panel of the Pontiac US models Tempest / LeMans / GTO was installed in the interior .
From 1966 the name Acadian was dropped and Beaumont became an independent brand, which was still sold by the Canadian Pontiac and Buick dealers. The wagons had a new badge based on the Pontiac arrowhead symbol, but with two red maple leaves. They had the same engines as the Chevelle, the OHV - six-cylinder engines and various V8 engines . The V8 small blocks were available with 4638 cm³, 5359 cm³ and later with 5735 cm³, the Mark IV big blocks with 6489 cm³. There were manual transmissions with three or four gears and automatic transmissions as two-stage Powerglide or three-stage Hydramatic .
The SD models (Sport Deluxe) corresponded to the Super Sport models of the Chevelle and had single seats in the front and a center console, as well as side stripes and special chrome equipment. The SD396 models (cubic capacity 396 ci. = 6489 cm³) are the most popular Beaumont today. Only a few were built and most of them rusted away in the harsh Canadian winter climate, so these models are much rarer than the corresponding Chevelle and are in demand by certain collectors. The SD series was available as a two-door hardtop - coupé or two-door convertible . In addition to the SD series, the Beaumont was also available as Custom and Deluxe .
The Beaumont was built until model year 1969 and then replaced on the Canadian market by the Pontiac LeMans .
Other countries
The Beaumont was also built in Chile (at the Arica plant ) and temporarily sold in Puerto Rico .
