Berlin fairytale days

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Berlin Fairy Tale Days were founded in 1990 by Horst-Dieter Klock as a project of the New Society for Literature (NGL) and led by him until 1999. It was held for the first time from September 11th to 16th, 1990 under the motto Authors from East and West tell fairy tales for children, and Horst-Dieter Klock, Eberhard Alexander-Burgh and Hans Häußler were responsible for their conception . In 2000, Silke Fischer became the project manager of the Berlin Fairy Tale Days within the NGL and, among other things, postponed the series of events from September to November. Since 2004, the Märchenland e.V., founded at the same time by Silke Fischer and the former NGL managing director Monika Panse in Berlin . V. organized the newly designed fairytale festival under both management.

Events from 1990

The first fourteen Berlin Fairy Tale Days until 2003 were held as a project of the New Society for Literature (NGL). Already during the first five events the number of participating authors as well as those of the event locations and the duration of the event - from 6 to 18 days at the beginning - grew considerably. In contrast to the events after 1999, the thematic mottos of the Berlin Fairy Tale Days were kept very open under the direction of Horst-Dieter Klock and were awarded the German Children's Culture Prize in October 1999 . Starting in 2000, Silke Fischer changed the concept of the Berlin Fairy Tale Days as a project manager within the NGL and in 2004 she took on the role of director of the Märchenland e. V. hived off from the NGL, which is why the information on this can be found in the following table from 2000 onwards. In addition, the current sources only allow information for the first five Berlin fairy tale days from 1990 to 1994 to be given here.

Events from 2000

From 1990 to 2003 the Berlin Fairy Tale Days were a project of the New Society for Literature (NGL). With Silke Fischer, from 2000 project manager of the Berliner Märchentage within NGL and from 2004 director of the Märchenland eV association she co-founded . V. , the series of events was conceptually changed by her and spun off from the NGL in 2004, which is why the table here shows the information for the events from 2000 onwards.

Every year from 2000 to 2015 inclusive , the Berlin Fairy Tale Days presented a foreign culture and fairy tale circle from around the world. In cooperation with the embassies and institutions of the respective countries, fairy tales , myths and stories from all epochs were presented by international artists in readings, dance, theater and music events in libraries, bookshops, schools and event rooms on an average of 17 days . In addition, scientific symposia , exhibitions and film events were held. Since 2016 the mottos of the Berlin Fairy Tale Days have again been without national or regional reference and instead negotiate topics such as love and hate or power and powerlessness.

The series of events is funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Education, Youth and Sport , the German Lottery Foundation and the Federal Agency for Civic Education .

Student competition

Since 1998, the annual writing and painting competition, which has been advertised nationwide since 2004 and internationally since 2008, has been aimed at the 4th, 5th and 6th school classes. As part of the Berlin Fairy Tale Days, students should invent their own fairy tales based on a given topic. Behind Märchenland stands a jury of experts, including children's book authors, storytellers and researchers, teachers, journalists and decision-makers from federal ministries. Awards will be given to the twelve most beautiful fairy tale ballads together with the twelve most successful pictures, which are published in a fairy tale calendar and are awarded prizes in kind.
