Location and name

The aim of the construction project was to improve the connection of the northern part of the federal district. It was realized at the level of Genscherallee , not far from the art museum and the Bundeskunsthalle . The House of History is also within walking distance. The name UN Campus refers to the center of the based in Bonn 19 organizations of the United Nations and is one of the largest employment areas of the city. The breakpoint is not only important for visitors to the UN organizations, but also for commuters from other companies such as Deutsche Telekom and Deutsche Post .

The plans for the stop - the first new one on the railway line in the Bonn city area since it was extended to Rolandseck in 1856 - under the originally intended name of Bonn Federal Quarter go back at least to 2006. On April 14, 2011, the Bonn city council decided on the name "Bonn UN Campus". The preparatory construction work began in March 2016. On November 1, 2017, the breakpoint was put into operation. Originally, this should not take place until the timetable change on December 10, 2017. However, due to the UN climate conference, which took place in Bonn in November 2017 , construction was accelerated and the opening brought forward. Some remaining work for the breakpoint was completed by the end of 2018.

The investments amount to 7.9 million euros; as additional urban measures, a bike + ride facility was or will be built for 650,000 euros and the neighboring bus stop will be made barrier-free . The majority of the urban accompanying measures will be implemented between August and probably December 2019 [out of date] . Around 4,000 passengers are expected every day. There are two outside platforms , as well as ramps and stairs as well as a pedestrian underpass . The two platforms have a usable length of 220 m and a height of 76 cm above the top of the rails (SO).

Installation

The breakpoint was put into operation on November 1, 2017. Participants of the 2017 UN climate conference in Bonn (COP 23) from the German capital Berlin , including Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks was in one of the November 4, Deutsche Bahn specially equipped and designed provided, ICE Train to Bonn with phasing in the new breakpoint arrive . One day later, the official inauguration of the new traffic station followed with the presentation of the “CleanShuttle” for the climate conference.

During the UN climate conference, all lines (RE 5, RB 26, RB 30 and RB 48) drove to the stop in both directions, then only the RB 26 and RB 30 (in both directions) and the RB 48 (only to the south, since 2019 also to the north).

service

The stop is served by the RE 5 ( Rhein-Express ), RB 26 ( MittelrheinBahn ), RB 30 ( Rhein-Ahr-Bahn ) and RB 48 ( Rhein-Wupper-Bahn ) lines. Since December 10, 2017, the RE 5, RB 26 and RB 30 lines have been running to the stop in both directions. The RB 48 (Rhein-Wupper-Bahn) in the direction of Cologne / Wuppertal has stopped there since December 15, 2019.
