Cârța or Cîrța [ ˈkɨrtsa ] ( German  Kerz , Hungarian Kerc ) is a municipality in the Sibiu district in Transylvania , Romania .

Geographical location

The place Cârța is on the river Olt ( Alt ), on the Avrig – Făgăraş railway line and about two and a half kilometers from the European route 68 . The nearest small town Avrig ( Freck ) is about 20 kilometers southwest; the district capital Sibiu ( Hermannstadt ) 42 kilometers west of Cârța.

history

The place owes its name to the Kerz Monastery , a Cistercian monastery that was founded in 1202 and dissolved in 1474 under Matthias Corvinus .
