Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy and Spain are represented more strongly in the jury than the other countries. • Category: Quality (model range); based on the ADAC breakdown statistics that have existed since 1977. Vehicles of the model series that are more than six years old and that did not achieve at least 10,000 new registrations within three years are not taken into account.
  • Category: Favorite car (model series); After a pre-selection based on data from the ADAC customer barometer (a representative online survey of over 20,000 drivers in Germany), only ADAC members can take part in the annual vote and choose the most popular car from ten model series.

On January 18, 2014, ADAC's head of communications and editor-in-chief of the members' newspaper ADAC Motorwelt , Michael Ramstetter , resigned due to allegations of manipulation in the award of the car award. According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the VW Golf, which was awarded on January 16, 2014, only received 3,409 votes instead of the 34,299 votes mentioned in an ADAC document. According to ADAC, Ramstetter multiplied the number of votes, but did not change the ranking of the winners. On January 22nd, 2014, the then ADAC President Peter Meyer announced that the car prize would no longer be awarded in the future.
