Today DOR Film Produktionsgesellschaft mbH is one of the leading and largest film production companies in Austria . It was founded in 1988 by Milan Dor and Danny Krausz with the aim of creating an innovative production facility for young Austrian directors. Dor Film is responsible for some of the most successful Austrian films such as Schlafes Bruder (1995), Hinterholz 8 (1998), Komm, Süßer Tod (2000) or Poppitz (2002).
history
Milan Dor , the son of the Austrian writer Milo Dor , founded Dor Film in Vienna in 1988 together with Danny Krausz . The company's first full-length feature film , Pink Palace, Paradise Beach , followed just a year later. In 1995 Milan Dor retired from active management, but continued to work in the development of material and in the film dramaturgy at Dor Film. His successor as managing director was Kurt Stocker . In 1996 the company set up the Center for Audiovisual Postproduction (ZAP). The popular 14-part children's series Die Knickerbocker-Gang was produced for ORF in 1997 , based on the children's book series of the same name by Thomas Brezina .
Dor Film achieved a huge success in 1998 with the film Hinterholz 8 (with Roland Düringer in the leading role), because the film became the most visited Austrian film of the year; he even received a Romy in 1999 .
With the establishment of the subsidiary Dor Film West GmbH in Munich by Danny Krausz, Dor Film expanded to Germany in 1998.
A major failure in 2001 was the international co-production All the Queen's Men (Her Majesty 's Men ), a $ 25 million production that received few visitors both internationally and in Austria. In 2002, however, the next box-office hit for the company followed with Poppitz , with 441,000 moviegoers in Austria. This put the film just behind Hinterholz 8 (618,000 visitors). The two productions by Dor Film together form the two most-watched Austrian films since 1981 (start of the nationwide evaluation of visitor numbers).
In 2006 Dor Film left the association of austrian filmproducers (AAFP) , the association of Austrian film producers, in order to create a new association together with the production companies Allegro Film , Epo-Film , MR Film , Team-Film , Wega Film and Satel Film the film Austria to found.
