Loich is an Austrian municipality with 594 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the district of Sankt Pölten-Land in the state of Lower Austria .
geography
The area of the municipality covers 24.51 square kilometers. 65.02 percent of the area is forested.
Loich is located in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria in a side valley of the Pielach , which branches off 4 km southwest of Kirchberg an der Pielach in a southerly direction and is formed by the Loichbach and its tributaries. The place Loich itself is about 30 km southwest of the center of the district and state capital St. Pölten . The area belongs to the Türnitz Alps , a mountain group of the Northern Limestone Alps .
The highest elevations are the Eisenstein at 1185 m above sea level. A. in the southeast and the Schwarzenberg with 1033 m above sea level. A. in the east of the municipality.
Expansion of the municipal area
The area of the municipality of Loich extends from the Pielach Valley in the north to the watershed of the Pielach and Traisen in the south. In the west, south and east the community is bounded by the natural boundaries of the valley formed by the Loichbach. Here the community has its highest elevations with several mountains at an altitude of 1000 meters. The lowest point is 397 m above sea level. A. in the municipality of Dobersnigg, where the Pielach leaves the municipality.

Neighboring communities
The municipality of Loich borders in the north and in the east on the municipality of Kirchberg an der Pielach . While the border in the north is formed by the Pielach , the border in the east is determined by the 1033 m high Schwarzenberg and in the south by the 1185 m high Eisenstein. In the southeast the community borders on Türnitz ( Lilienfeld district ), in the south and southwest on Schwarzenbach an der Pielach . The neighboring community in the northwest is Frankenfels .

Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 669 inhabitants. In 1991 the community had 653 inhabitants, in 1981 661 and in 1971 656 inhabitants.
Attractions
- Local history museum: the local history museum of the Loich culture and local history association is partly an open-air museum, consisting of a drying house, a press house, the Pichl mill and the local area. The grinding process from grain to flour can be demonstrated in the mill. In addition, old farm equipment about fruit growing and processing, equipment for wool, hemp and flax processing, equipment and documents about coal mining and a mineral collection can be viewed.
- Parish church: built in 1784, with baroque side altars, consecrated to St. Nicholas
- Kaiser Jubilee Fountain: erected by the Loich community on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Emperor Franz Josef

traffic
The municipality of Loich is located away from the main roads and can only be reached via the state road running in the valley of the Loichbach , which branches off from the Pielachtal road (B 39) in the Dobersnigg district . Via the B 39 there is a connection to the district and state capital St. Pölten as well as the West Autobahn (A 1) about 30 km away.
In the north of the municipality, the Mariazellerbahn runs along the Pielach. The Loich stop is in the Dobersnigg part of the municipality . From here there are hourly regional train connections to St. Pölten.
