History and etymology

The name Dubrow is derived from the Slavic and means something like oak country . The surface of the area was created in the last Glaciation of the Vistula , which ended around 11,600 years ago. After the ice retreated, a forest area developed in which sessile oak , pine and birch grew. On Sandern were formed lichen - pine forests . The remaining moraines are recognizable as numerous elevations such as the Pätzer Berge, the Dubrowberge and the Katzenberge in the landscape.

Game cellar

From the 17th century the Dubrow was a preferred hunting ground for the kings of Prussia . According to tradition, the first hunting in 1697 took place after the Great Elector for his son Frederick I , the Castle King Wusterhausen acquired. He in turn gave it to his son Friedrich Wilhelm I , who set off from the palace on the court hunts. In the 18th century, foresters began to replace the natural tree population with a commercial forest with pines. The last court hunt took place in 1913 under Kaiser Wilhelm II . Craftsmen built a game cellar to store the game. It is populated by bats in the 21st century . After the forestry was given up at the beginning of the 20th century, the forest darkened; old oak stands died. At the time of the GDR , a KiEZ opened on the north bank of the Hölzerner See . It has been operated as the Floriansdorf KiEZ Frauensee since 2013 .

Flora and fauna

Numerous bird species have been identified in the forest, including the black and red kite , tawny owl , tree falcon , kingfisher , buzzard , hawk , common ravens , cranes , gray heron and osprey . There are also 12 species of bat such as the greater horseshoe bat , the water bat and the pipistrelle bat . The old oak stocks are populated by the stag beetle and the oak hero buck . On the ground, many amphibian and reptile species such as the live agile frog , the spadefoot , the natterjack toad and sand lizard , but also the wood ant or the grass snake and slow worm . The sundew and water hoses thrive in the boggy depressions .

Dubrow nature reserve

In the southern part, 263.33 hectares are under special protection as an FFH area . A terminal moraine had formed there, on the south-eastern side of which numerous channel lakes have formed. Two sub-areas were designated as a natural development area in 1961 : an area near the shore at the Hölzerner See as well as the Schmölde and an oak population in the area of a former gray heron colony, the 18.07 hectare natural forest Dubrow.

The otters , the great mouse-eared mouse and the northern crested newt live in the area and are under special protection. The same applies to the large oak goat , the large moss maiden and the stag beetle.
