Welden is a market in the Swabian district of Augsburg and the seat of the Welden administrative association . Since the municipal reform in 1978, the market has included the main town of Welden, the parish village of Reutern and the hamlet of Ehgatten.
geography
Welden is the center of the Holzwinkel in the Augsburg-Westliche Wälder nature park .
Welden and spouses are located on the Laugna, a tributary of the union . Reutern is located on a hill between the Zusam and Laugna valleys.
The municipality has 3 officially named municipal parts (the type of settlement is given in brackets ):
history
Until the 19th century
The place name of Welden means "settlement on the forest". The place was laid out as a clearing settlement at the end of the 9th century, when the Laugna valley was cleared and settled from the north . The first documentary mention of the place took place in the 1156th Welden was the ancestral seat of the knightly family of the Lords of Welden , who were feudal takers of the Margraves of Burgau . It was raised to market in 1402. In 1597 the Fuggers acquired control of Welden, which remained in their hands until the Fugger-Wellenburg line died out in 1764. The place was then part of Austria for a few decades ( Welden nursing office ) before it came to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806 .
20th century
Since December 5, 1903, Welden was the end point of a railway line from Augsburg , which was operated in passenger and freight traffic until 1986. Today there is a cycle path on the railway line.
From 1862 to 1929 Welden belonged to the district office of Zusmarshausen and from 1929 to the district office of Augsburg , which from 1939 was then referred to as the district of Augsburg .
From 1937 to 1940 a production facility for the manufacture of explosives precursors was built under the cover name “Z-Hiag” on 40 hectares of forest. The operator was Paraxol GmbH, Frankfurt, a subsidiary of the Deutsche Gold- und Silberscheideanstalt ( Degussa ). Pentaeryhritol and methanol explosive products were manufactured. In 1944, production was switched to rocket fuel. After the war the bunkers were blown up. The area was used by the Bundeswehr as a depot.
Incorporations
As part of the municipal reform , the municipality of Reutern was incorporated into Welden on May 1, 1978 . The hamlet of Ehgatten, which belonged to the community of Streitheim (which is now in the Zusmarshausen market ), also came to the Welden market. In terms of school and parish, spouses belonged to Markt Welden even before 1978. In 2002 the entire village community celebrated a great historical festival to mark the 600th anniversary of the market survey.
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the market grew from 2,994 to 3,808 by 814 inhabitants or 27.2%.
