The 1962/63 season of the ice hockey group league was the second season of the third-highest German ice hockey league. The master TSV Holzkirchen qualified in the relegation games to the upper league against the second division bottom SC Ziegelwies for the upper league. Since the group league was increased to seven teams per group for the 1963/64 season , there was no relegated team.

Attendees

The relegation between the group league and the regional league was only played out at the beginning of the 1962/63 season after reports to the league. In the north, SC Brandenburg Berlin, third in group north, withdrew from the league. Promoted was the Altona SV . In the south, EV Pegnitz , fifth in the group league south, withdrew. The champions of the Landesliga Bayern, EV Rosenheim , rose. The last of the previous year, ESV Herrsching, and the champion of the Landesliga Württemberg, the TEC Waldau Stuttgart , played for sixth place in the group south :

The preliminary round of the league was played on two tracks, with both seasons starting with six teams each. The round was played in the form of a single round, so that each club played a home and an away game against the other teams in its group. The first two of the groups then played the champions and participants in the relegation games to the league in the final round . Since the league was increased to 14 teams for the 1963/64 season , there was no athletic relegation.

Group league qualification

The champions of the national leagues could apply for qualification for the group league.

Group north

Only Blau-Weiß Wickede , champion of the Landesliga Nordrhein-Westfalen, registered for the promotion round and qualified without a fight for the group league 1963/64.

Group south

The Bavarian master Munich EV secured promotion against the Württemberg master TEC Waldau Stuttgart . Baden did not provide any participant.
