The season is divided into three phases. First of all, all twelve teams play a common main round in which each team plays 22 games. The teams are then divided into two groups of six teams. In the respective groups, the participants complete 20 more games taking the points from the first phase of the season with them. Each team receives three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after overtime or shootout, one point for a loss after overtime or shootout and zero points for a loss after regular time.
The six teams in Group A and the two best-placed teams in Group B qualify for the playoffs in which the champions are played out. The playoffs are played continuously in best-of-seven mode .
