Fischbach-Göslikon ( Swiss German : ˈfɪʃpɑχ ˈɡøːslikχə , also called Figö ) is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Aargau . It belongs to the Bremgarten district and is located in the Reuss Valley .

geography

The community consists of the districts Fischbach (in the southeast) and Göslikon (in the northwest), which have grown together over the last few decades. These are located on the flat eastern slope of the Wagenrain , around half a kilometer from the western bank of the Reuss. A horseshoe-shaped oxbow river extends almost as far as Fischbach. In the south, the community has a share in the Bremgarterwald, one of the largest contiguous forest areas in the Aargau Central Plateau . There you will find the Fischbacher Mösli, a 280-meter-long and up to 100-meter-wide pond surrounded by a belt of reeds , and right next to it is a raised bog in the Fischbacher Moos nature reserve .

The area of the municipality is 307 hectares , of which 60 hectares are forested and 64 hectares are built over. The highest point is at 445  m above sea level. M. in the Obermatten area, the deepest point is 354  m above sea level. M. on the Reuss. Neighboring communities are Künten in the north, Eggenwil in the east, Bremgarten in the southeast, Wohlen in the southwest and Niederwil in the west.

history

Two graves with graves indicate that the area was already settled during the Hallstatt period. The remains of a building date from Roman times . The first documentary mention of Visbach ( derived from the Old High German Fiscbah ) took place in 1048 in connection with the inauguration of the church. This came into the possession of the Muri monastery in 1159 and in 1360 to the Agness Hospital in Baden . The place name Cohelinchon first appeared in 1159, it comes from the Old High German Gozilinghofun and means "at the farms of the Gozilo clan".

Other landowners in the Middle Ages were the Gnadenthal Monastery and the Hermetschwil Monastery . The blood jurisdiction and the lower courts were in the hands of the Habsburgs . In 1415 the confederates conquered . Fischbach and Göslikon were now in the office of Hermetschwil (also called Krummamt) in the free offices , a common rule . In 1529 the inhabitants of both villages converted to the Reformation , but had to return to the old denomination after the Second Kappel War of 1531.

On May 26, 1712, the battle of the perennials took place south of Fischbach during the Second Villmerger War . Bernese troops, which were on the way from Mellingen to Bremgarten , were ambushed by the central Swiss, but were able to repel the attack. 87 soldiers from Bern and more than 400 soldiers from Central Switzerland (mostly from Lucerne ) were killed in the two-hour battle . On July 24th, 1712, there was a decisive battle near Villmergen , in which the Catholic towns suffered a devastating defeat.

In March 1798, the French invaded Switzerland and proclaimed the Helvetic Republic . Both villages were united and together formed a municipality in the short-lived canton of Baden , since 1803 the municipality has belonged to the canton of Aargau. In the second half of the 19th century, almost a third of the population emigrated due to increasing poverty, mostly to the large Swiss cities, but also to North America. After that, the population stagnated until around 1960. Since then, the population has more than tripled due to lively construction activity.

Attractions

Göslikon Church

Characteristic for the district of Göslikon is the listed church district with the Catholic parish church Maria Himmelfahrt, the Rochus chapel, the rectory and the cemetery. The city of Baden, the responsible building owner since the transfer of the Kollatur to the local hospital in 1360, decided on a new early baroque building in 1669 , which could be completed in 1676. In 1757/60 the interior was completely redesigned in the Rococo style. The Rochus Chapel dates from 1709, the rectory from the late 16th century. In the Fischbach district, the “Zum Rittersaal” farmhouse is particularly important; a compact half-timbered building from around 1800 with a strongly protruding saddle roof.

coat of arms

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms reads: "White fish curved in red." In 1915, the historian Walther Merz proposed a coat of arms that showed a sloping river and two fish in red. However, the proposal did not meet with approval. On the occasion of a flag consecration, the local gymnastics club presented today's motif, which the local council immediately adopted and declared official.
