Frankenthal is a district of the city of Neunburg vorm Wald in the Schwandorf district in Bavaria .

geography

Frankenthal is located about seven kilometers east of Neunburg vorm Wald in the Schwarzach breakthrough valley , a narrow gorge that connects to the Eixendorftalsperre . Here the Schwarzach breaks through the granite bar that separates the Tertiary basin around Rötz from the Neunburg valley basin .

history

The innkeeper and brewery owner Michael Frank von Neunburg built the grinding plant in 1878 and a Marienkapelle in 1881 on the heights in the forest towards Nefling .

On March 23, 1913 Frankenthal was part of the parish of Neunburg vorm Wald, consisted of three houses and had 68 inhabitants.

In 1964 Frankenthal belonged together with Eixendorf , Fürstenhof , Nefling and Stockarn to the municipality of Eixendorf and was incorporated into the town of Neunburg vorm Wald as part of the 1974 territorial reform .

On December 31, 1990 Frankenthal had three residents and belonged to the parish of Neunburg vorm Wald.

The old glass loop factory building in Frankenthal is very important in terms of architecture and history. A forest chapel built in 1881 is located above Frankenthal.

tourism

The Schwarzachtal-Radweg (Sz) leads past Frankenthal on the route of the former Bodenwöhr – Rötz railway line . This important main route in the Bavarian network for cyclists connects the Czech Republic with Schwarzenfeld and the Naabtalradweg (Na).
