Frederik Marcus Knuth

Liege Count Frederik Marcus Knuth-Knuthenborg (also Frederik Markus Knuth ; born January 11, 1813 in Christiania ; † January 8, 1856 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish nobleman, bailiff and national liberal politician. As Minister of March , he was Denmark's first Foreign Minister. He was also liege count of Knuthenborg from 1818 until his death .

Life

Knuth was born in Christiania in 1813 into the Count's Knuth family. His mother was Karen F. Knuth, daughter of the Norwegian politician and later First Minister Marcus Gjøe Rosenkrantz , his father was the lawyer Eggert Christopher Knuth , he drowned three months after the birth of his son in Sarpen . Frederik Marcus' grandfather Frederik Knuth died in 1818, and so Frederik Marcus became the heir to large estates at the age of five, meanwhile from his uncle AW Moltke. His mother married for the second time on June 22, 1815, and the husband was the Norwegian Major General Carl Frederik Ferdinand Vilhelm Albrecht Kaltenborn .

In 1829 Knuth began his law studies and made his state examination in 1833. Four years later he took control of Knuthenborg, which he led authoritatively. In 1847 he became a district councilor in Sorø . From March 22 to November 16, 1848, Knuth was Foreign Minister of Denmark's first elected government, the so-called March Ministry . On October 23, 1848 Knuth was a member of the Constituent Assembly ( Den Grundlovgivende Rigsforsamling ). In 1852 and 1853 he was a member of the Folketing and in 1854 of the Landsting .

In his office as Foreign Minister he was succeeded by the Council President Adam Wilhelm Moltke .

Offspring and death

His marriage to Karen Rothe (1815–1877) in Copenhagen on May 18, 1837 had six children:

The children were all titled Lehnsgraf ("greve") and Lehnsgräfin ("komtesse").

Knuth died in Copenhagen on January 8, 1856 and was buried in the cemetery of Hunseby Kirke .
