The four best-placed teams qualified directly for the final round of the 2014 World Cup. Ecuador used its home advantage in Quito , which is 2,850 meters high, and was able to win all home games except for the game against Argentina. Away they only managed three draws in five defeats and so the team before Uruguay could qualify directly as fourth group thanks to the better goal difference, while Uruguay got the last place in the World Cup finals against the Asian representative Jordan in the intercontinental playoffs.
