Preliminary round venues (red), round of 16 venue and quarters (green) |
When the final round was drawn on December 6, 2013, Chile were specifically drawn to a European team that was set as the group head. As in 2010, they were drawn into the group with Spain. Then there were the Netherlands and Australia. Against Australia, Chile also played in the group stage of the 1974 World Cup, but only came to a goalless draw. Three more games against the Australians were won. There was only one game against the Netherlands before, in the consolation round at the Olympic Games in 1928, which ended 2-2. In addition to the 2010 World Cup, Chile also played against Spain at the last World Cup in Brazil and had only two draws and eight defeats in a total of 10 games before the World Cup.
Two preliminary round venues were on the Atlantic coast, Cuiabá inland. Before the World Cup, Chile played several times against Brazil and other South American teams in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, as well as against Spain at the 1950 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, but never in Cuiabá.
The team's quarters and training facility was the Toca da Raposa II in Belo Horizonte .
