history

Settlement in the Glenburn area began in 1806. The area was initially named Township No. 1, Third Range North of Waldo Patent (T1 R3 NWP) . As a town, it was organized on January 29, 1822 under the name Dutton. It was named after Samuel E. Dutton, a Bangor lawyer who had a keen interest in the area. He later became a probate judge and was the founder of Bangor Theological Seminary. The town was renamed Glenburn on March 18, 1837.
