Greenbush is a town in Penobscot County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 1,491 inhabitants in 725 households on an area of 113.86 km².

Geographical location
Greenbush is in the south of Penobscot County. The western border of the area of the town forms the Penobscot River . Several smaller rivers flow through the Greenbush area and flow into it. There are only smaller lakes in the area. The surface is flat, without any significant elevations.

history
Settlement in the area began in 1820. Greenbush was organized on February 28, 1834 as an independent town. Previously, the area was named Township No. 2 Old Indian Purchase, East of Penobscot River (T2 OIP EPR) or also known as Ayers Settlement .
