1930 World Cup in Uruguay

The Haitian Football Federation was founded in 1908, but was not incorporated into FIFA until 1933 . Therefore, Haiti could not take part in the first World Cup in Uruguay.

World Championship 1934 in Italy

On January 28, 1934, Haiti played their first World Cup qualifier in Port-au-Prince and lost 3-1 to Cuba . Four days later, a 1: 1 was achieved against Cuba at the same place and three days later a 0: 6 followed. Haiti was eliminated. Cuba then failed in the next round to Mexico , which had actually qualified for the World Cup, but had to compete in Italy against the USA, who registered late , and lost 4-2 there.

Four years later, Haiti did not participate in the qualification .

World Cup in Brazil in 1950

Haiti also did not compete in the first World Cup after World War II . With Joseph Gaetjens , however, there was a Haitian in the US squad and scored the 1-0 winning goal for the US against England , which surprisingly eliminated England in their first World Cup participation in the preliminary round.

1954 World Cup in Switzerland

In qualifying for the World Cup in Switzerland, Haiti had to face Mexico and the USA. Haiti lost all four games and were eliminated from the bottom of the group. Among other things, they lost 8-0 to Mexico. The only major defeat (1: 9) was against Brazil in 1959 .

World Championships 1958 to 1966

Haiti did not take part in the qualifications for the World Championships in Sweden, Chile and England.

1970 World Cup in Mexico

In qualifying for the World Cup in Mexico, Haiti then competed again and played for the starting place, which was granted to the CONCACAF teams in addition to the starting place for hosts Mexico. In the first round, Haiti prevailed against Guatemala and Trinidad and Tobago and also survived the semi-finals against the USA with two wins (2-0 and 1-0). In the final, El Salvador was the opponent. After a 1: 2 home game, the away game was won 3: 0. Since the goals scored were irrelevant, there was a playoff in Kingston ( Jamaica ), which was lost 1-0 after extra time. This is the first time El Salvador has qualified for the World Cup.

Haiti then surprisingly qualified for the first World Cup in Germany . In the first round of qualifying was Puerto Rico with 7: 0 and 5: 0 off. In the second round, Haiti was able to use the home advantage with a gymnast in Port-au-Prince and prevail against Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Honduras , Guatemala and the Netherlands Antilles . Haiti only lost the last game against Mexico when the qualification was already perfect and benefited from the Mexicans' defeat against Trinidad and Tobago and the fact that Mexico only came to a draw against Guatemala and Honduras.

In Germany, Haiti faced runner-up world champions Italy in their first World Cup game . Italy's goalkeeper Dino Zoff had not conceded a goal since September 20, 1972 and in front of 53,000 spectators in Munich , most of whom were Italian guest workers living in Germany , Italy was the favorite. But Haiti kept the 0-0 for 45 minutes and in the first minute of the second half Emmanuel Sanon even managed the 1-0, which Dino Zoff had to accept again after 1143 minutes of international play. Six minutes later, Gianni Rivera equalized for the Italians, which broke the resistance. Romeo Benetti and Pietro Anastasi then increased to 3-1 for Italy. In the second game, Haiti fell 7-0 against Olympic champion Poland , against whom a 3-1 win after a previous 2-1 defeat in Haiti in April 1974, and also lost to Argentina (1-4 ). Haiti said goodbye to the World Cup for at least 48 years, but by preventing more than three goals from the Italians, Italy was eliminated in the first final round.

1978 World Cup in Argentina

Haiti could not qualify for the World Cup in Argentina . In the preliminary decision of the qualification , the team prevailed with two 3-0 wins against the Dominican Republic . In the second round there were two wins (2: 1 and 7: 0) against the Netherlands Antilles. In the third round, Cuba was eliminated in three games (twice 1: 1 and once 2: 0 in neutral). In the last round, however, only the second place was occupied behind Mexico, which won all five games in the group of six.

1982 World Cup in Spain

In the qualification for the World Cup in Spain , for which the CONCACAF teams were again entitled to two starting places after increasing the field of participants, Haiti prevailed in the first round in Caribbean Group B against Trinidad and Tobago and the Netherlands Antilles , there Haiti scored three more goals than the two group opponents. In the final tournament, only the last place behind Honduras, which qualified for the first time, El Salvador, which reached the World Cup finals for the second time, was occupied by Mexico, Canada and Cuba. There were only two draws against Canada and Mexico, all other games were lost.

1986 World Cup in Mexico

The qualification for the second World Cup in Mexico , for which the CONCACAF teams were granted only one additional starting place in addition to hosts Mexico, did not go any better. In the first round Haiti won 4-0 and 1-2 against Antigua and Barbuda , but then lost all games against Canada and Guatemala in the second round . Canada was then able to qualify for the first and so far only time for the World Cup finals.

1990 World Cup in Italy

The qualification for the second World Cup in Italy took place without Haiti.

1994 World Cup in the United States

In qualifying for the World Cup in the USA , Haiti failed in the first round. After a 0-1 away defeat against Bermuda, the home game could only be won 2-1. Since the away goals rule now applied, Haiti was eliminated. Bermuda could not qualify either.

1998 World Cup in France

In the qualification for the second World Cup in France , for the CONCACAF teams three places have now been admitted to Haiti could not qualify. At first they won 6-1 and 1-0 against Grenada, but then lost 6-1 against Cuba and only scored 1-1 in the second leg. Cuba then also failed in the next round.

World Championship 2002 in Japan and South Korea

The qualification for the first World Cup in Asia went as before. In the first round Dominica was eliminated 4-0 and 3-1, then the Bahamas 9-0 and 0-4, but then lost the first leg in Trinidad & Tobago with 1-3 and only achieved a 1-1 draw in the second leg . Haiti then still had the chance to qualify for the CONCACAF intermediate round via the interzone qualification against Honduras, but lost with 0: 4 and 1: 3. Trinidad & Tobago and Honduras were then eliminated in the CONCACAF final round as bottom and fourth in the group.

World Cup 2006 in Germany

Haiti then failed to qualify for the second World Cup in Germany . In the first round the national soccer team of the Turks and Caicos Islands was eliminated with 5-0 and 2-0, but in the second round the qualification for Haiti was over after a 1-1 and a 0-3 against Jamaica.

World Cup 2010 in South Africa

Haiti was also unable to qualify for the first World Cup in Africa . The qualification started for Haiti in the second round with a 0-0 home game against the Netherlands Antilles. Since the away game was won 1-0, Haiti moved into the third round. Here Haiti retired as third in the group behind Costa Rica and El Salvador and could only leave Suriname behind. Haiti couldn't win a game, three were lost and ended in a draw. Costa Rica and El Salvador could not qualify in the end either.

2014 World Cup in Brazil

Haiti could not qualify for the second World Cup in Brazil . In the second round , for which Haiti was automatically qualified, the team failed to Antigua and Barbuda . Only Curaçao and the US Virgin Islands could be relegated to the places. Antigua and Barbuda then failed in the third round.

World Cup 2018 in Russia

In qualifying for the World Cup in Russia , Haiti only had to intervene in the third round and met Grenada in the two legs at the end of August / beginning of September 2015 . The fourth round was reached with two wins, where Costa Rica , Panama and Jamaica were the opponents. With two game days before the end there was no more chance of progressing.
