Hans-Martin Majewski
Hans-Martin Majewski (born January 14, 1911 in Schlawe , Pomerania , Germany ; † January 1, 1997 in Bötersen ) was a German film composer .
Biographical information
After dropping out of medical school, Majewski enrolled at the Leipzig Conservatory . His teachers included u. a. Robert Teichmüller (piano), Bruno Walter (conducting) and Kurt Thomas (choir director). After moving to Berlin , he worked from 1935 as a conductor and répétiteur at the Theater des Volkes . In 1938 Majewski composed his first operetta, " Insel der Träume " . A year later he was hired by the director Arthur Maria Rabenalt for his film Escape into the Darkhe wrote the film music. The Second World War and the draft as a soldier initially interrupted Majewski's artistic work.
After the war, Majewski had now settled in Hamburg as a composer , wrote radio plays and directed the regularly broadcast radio program “Kabarett der Zeit”. He also composed chansons for various cabarets in the Hanseatic city.
In 1948 Wolfgang Liebeneiner brought him back to film for the Wolfgang Borchert adaptation Love 47 (after the play Outside Front Door ) . The later equally successful film composers Peter Sandloff and Martin Böttcher were among Majewski's collaborators for the first time.
By the 1980s, Majewski wrote the music for around 200 feature and television films, numerous documentary and industrial films and around 100 radio plays. For example, he steered towards the five-part Am grün Strand der Spree by Hans Scholz (1957) or the radio play You can tell me a lot , in which Heinz Rühmann (1949) took part in one of his few works for the radio, as well as around 80 cabaret - and theater performances contribute to the music. The spectrum of his compositions ranged from classical music to jazz and popular music . This made him one of the most versatile and busiest film composers in Germany.
Hans-Martin Majewski's grave is in the local cemetery of Stapel (Rotenburg / Wümme district). His musical legacy was made available to the German Composers Archive in HELLERAU - European Center for the Arts Dresden .
