Heglau (dialect: "hēglɒ") is a district of the town of Merkendorf in the district of Ansbach in Middle Franconia .

geography

The village is located on the Heglauer Mühlbach, which is a left tributary of the Altmühl . The Bahngraben and the Scherwiesengraben flow there as right tributaries into the Heglauer Mühlbach. To the east is the corridor Katzenzipfel and the Mönchswald . In the northeast is the Gostenloh corridor and the Etzwiesen in the southwest.

The AN 59 district road takes you to Hirschlach (2 km to the west) or the B 13, crossing Dürrnhof and Selgenstadt, past Mitteleschenbach (7.5 km to the northeast). A community road leads to Merkendorf on the B 13 (2 km north).

history

The place was first mentioned in 1187 as "Heglin" in a document from Heilsbronn Monastery . The place name is made up of the Middle High German word "hege" (= thorn bushes, bushes) and the diminutive suffix and means settlement to the small thorn bushes .

The abbot Arnold from Heilsbronn acquired a tithe belonging to Ornbau in Heglau at this time . There were repeated disputes about a pond in the local area of Heglau between Heilsbronn Monastery and the Lords of Lentersheim , who lived in Altenmuhr Castle near Altenmuhr . Because Heilsbronn Monastery became Protestant in the 16th century, Heglau also became Protestant.

In the 16-point report of the Oberamt Windsbach from 1608, 12 teams were recorded for “Heglach”: the mill, 2 farms and 9 estates all had the Merkendorf administrator's office as landlord . The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach caste and city bailiff's office in Windsbach . According to the 16-point report of the Heilsbronn Vogtamt Merkendorf from 1616 there were 14 teams (2 farms and 12 estates). The place was completely destroyed in the Thirty Years War .

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 17 properties in Heglau (2 courtyards, 2 half courtyards, 5 quarter courtyards, 2 small estates, 2 quarter estates, 1 mill, 1 tavern, 2 empty houses ) and a community shepherd's house . The high court was exercised by the caste and municipal bailiff's office in Windsbach. The administration office Merkendorf held the village and community rulership and the land rulership over all properties. From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the Justice and Chamber Office Windsbach . At that time there were 16 subject families.

In 1806 Heglau came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the community edict, Heglau was assigned to the Hirschlach tax district, formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Hirschlach, founded in 1810 . With the second community edict (1818), Heglau broke away from Hirschlach and formed a rural community with Dürrnhof , which until then belonged to the Merkendorf municipality . It was subject to the Heilsbronn Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and the Windsbach Rent Office in the financial administration . From 1857 to 1862 Heglau was administered by the Gunzenhausen district court , since 1862 by the Gunzenhausen district office (renamed the Gunzenhausen district in 1938 ) and since 1865 by the Gunzenhausen rent office ( renamed the Gunzenhausen tax office in 1920 ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court Heilsbronn from 1862 to 1879, since 1880 with the district court Gunzenhausen . The municipality had an area of 2.275 km². In the course of the municipal reform , the municipality of Heglau came to the city of Merkendorf on January 1, 1971.

In 1998 a herb processing company was set up in Heglau . The Heglauer Wasen nature reserve is located on the edge of the Mühlbach . It is the oldest nature reserve in today's Ansbach district and was designated in 1970.

Since 2001, each in Heglau on the third Sunday of September, the Cabbage Festival celebrated with the note Dorfer Herb Queen.

In Heglau, the city of Merkendorf carried out a simple village renewal process in 2010 , which was successfully completed in 2011 with the inauguration of a herb fountain on the village square. The funds came from the economic stimulus package of the Federal Government .
