James Fox (2004)

James Fox (born April 6, 1976 in Cardiff , South Wales ; actually James Mullett ) is a British singer , songwriter , pianist and guitarist . In 2004 he represented Great Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest .

Life

Fox grew up in the Welsh town of Gilfach. He took piano lessons at the age of seven, and later learned to play guitar and drums .

After leaving Heolddu Comprehensive School, Fox worked (both under his real name and under the pseudonym "Nick James") for twelve years as a singer on cruise ships, in pubs and clubs. He later founded the band Force5 with Kevin Simm , which was mainly active on the Golden Mile in Blackpool . When Simm joined the group Liberty X (the winning band from the first season of the British edition of Popstars ), he introduced Fox to the management of Hyperactive. He has been signed as a soloist, but also as a background singer for various groups such as Liberty X, Ultra and Wet Wet Wet . He also maintained the British troops in Bosnia and Herzegovina , Afghanistan and the Falkland Islands .

In 2003 he took part in the British edition of the talent show Fame Academy , which promised the winner a record deal. Fox failed to win the show but finished fifth, which paved the way for career opportunities.

Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest

In 2004 Fox took part in Making Your Mind Up, the British preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest , with the song Hold On to Our Love, composed and written by Tim Woodcock by Gary Miller . He was able to prevail against the five other participants by a clear margin. At the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 in Istanbul he was less successful, with 29 points he reached 16th place out of 24 participants. With his contribution he still had a small hit in the UK and came to number 13 in the singles charts.

Musical theater

In 2004 James Fox played Judas in a version of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar produced by Bill Kenwright . During a performance, Tim Rice became aware of him and suggested him for the role of piano player in the American production of the Billy Joel musical Movin 'Out . The casting was successful and on April 6, 2005 his first show took place. He later traveled to Canada with the tour production of the musical . He returned to the UK in 2006 to play the same role in the UK version of the musical.

At the end of the 2007/08 football season he released the song Bluebirds Flying High together with the Welsh club Cardiff City , the "Bluebirds" , with which he came into the British charts for the second time.
