history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1277 in a primitive child as villa Kobula . There, the knight Otto von Bieberstein is confirmed to own several villages along the border with Poland. Other historical names include Kabalafalua (1366), Lovrfalua (1427), Koberdorff (1443), Koboldorph (1449) and Loffawla or Kobyldorff (1589). At the beginning of the 14th century, the village was owned by the Amadé family , after being confiscated because of resistance to Charles I Robert , it was assigned to the Perényi family . In 1427 there were 42 portals in a tax register, which at that time corresponded to a large village, but Kobyly still shrank in the 15th century due to incursions by Polish troops and the Hussite Wars.

In the early 16th century, the powerful Zápolya family owned local estates . In 1547 they came to the dominion of the city of Bartfeld, which kept the village until 1756. In 1600 the village had 26 inhabited houses, a school, a rectory, a church and a mill and was almost exclusively inhabited by subjects. The last owners came from the Klobusiczky family . In 1828 there were 80 houses and 604 inhabitants who were employed as carters, farmers, horse traders and breeders.

The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. A fire in 1938 killed 40 houses.
