The district of Bernau , in the early years and from 1990 to 1993 also the district of Bernau , was a German district . From 1952 to 1990 it belonged to the Frankfurt / Oder district of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and then until 1993 to the state of Brandenburg (Federal Republic of Germany). Its administrative seat was the city of Bernau near Berlin .

The Bernau district bordered the Gransee and Templin districts in the north, the Eberswalde and Bad Freienwalde districts in the east, the Strausberg district and Berlin in the south and the Oranienburg district in the west .
history
The district of Bernau was created in the course of a fundamental administrative reform in the GDR on July 25, 1952 through the dissolution and reorganization of the Niederbarnim district . The states of the former GDR were dissolved and the area was divided into 14 districts . The Bernau district was assigned to the Frankfurt (Oder) district . With the reunification in 1990, the Bernau district became a district under German municipal law . On May 17, 1990, the district was also formally renamed the Bernau district . From October 3, 1990 it belonged to the state of Brandenburg . The district seat was the city of Bernau near Berlin .

In 1992 the administrative communities of Amt Biesenthal-Barnim , Amt Groß Schönebeck (Schorfheide) , Amt Wandlitz , Amt Panketal , Amt Werneuchen and Amt Ahrensfelde / Blumberg were founded in the district (partly also across the district ) .
On December 6, 1993, the district became part of the Brandenburg district reform in the Barnim district .

License Plate
Motor vehicles (with the exception of motorcycles) and trailers were assigned three-letter distinctive signs starting with the letter pairs ED and EE from around 1974 to the end of 1990 . The last number plate series used for motorcycles was ET 00-01 to ET 99-99 .
At the beginning of 1991 the district received the distinctive sign BER . It was issued until the end of 1993. It has been available in the Barnim district since March 19, 2013 .
