Detailed memorial texts

  1. The Gohlis windmill was built in 1828–1832 in place of an older post mill. It shows a frustoconical structure. Since 1864 the mill was licensed and equipped with a large economy. After massive structural damage to the building, which was used for milling until 1914, in the first half of the 20th century, it was extensively restored in 1953–1955, 1982/83 and 2006/07. Today the mill is used as a show system with partly original grinding equipment. It consists of quarry stone with sandstone walls and shows round window openings at the top and semicircular windows in the middle and doors on the ground floor. The support brackets of the gallery with diamond motifs are striking. The gallery was renewed. Today there is a guest room on the ground floor. The first floor (arming room) above is dominated by the trestle with the bearing of the vertical shaft and the wooden gear transmission to the grinding aisles on the second floor, also called the grinding room. The vertical shaft extends into the wheel room, where it is moved by the vane shaft, pinion and main drive wheel. In the grinding room, there are the remains of two grinding stages (coarse grinding / sandstone; fine grinding / selenite), a grinding classifier and a stone crane / rock algae. The third floor, the wheel room, houses the impeller shaft, comb wheel and main drive wheel as well as the harvester through which the hood can be turned into the wind. The vertical shaft (jaw), vane shaft, raker and parts of the floorboards in the grinding room are original. The wings as well as other technical equipment have been renewed or taken over from other mills. The monument property of the mill in the Dresden district of Gohlis results on the one hand from its exemplary value for the development of milling with tower Dutch mills, which was widespread in Germany, especially in the 19th century, and on the other hand from their rarity. It is one of the few windmills in Saxony that has been preserved with large parts of the equipment and can thus convey the functionality more clearly than other such objects. Added to this is the landscape design significance that it has as a landmark that can be seen from afar. Around 1867 a restaurant was added, grinding was discontinued in 1914, renovated and expanded in 1925, decay after 1945, the restaurant was torn down in the 1970s, the mill was temporarily used as a district school for the FDJ and as a holiday camp, until 1961 also a museum, reconstructed in 1983, privatized and renewed in 2001 Establishment of a restaurant and museum, with a beer garden since 2003, renovation from 2006–2007.
