Created by the nationally known architect Kurt Bänke (the architecturally unique former consumer center in Fabrikstrasse and outside Dresden the high-quality youth recreation home Ottendorf in Saxon Switzerland), settlement complex is therefore primarily significant in terms of building history and urban development history.
  6. The "Hartmannsche Villa", Laubegaster Ufer 33, built by Huebner and Baron in the neo-renaissance style in 1874 , is one of the most notable Wilhelminian-style buildings in Dresden. The living rooms are accessed via a central hall and a magnificent staircase illuminated by candelabras. A gallery leads to the individual rooms on the first floor. The rich furnishings include mosaic floors, marble cladding, stucco decor and painting (from: Müller, Michael: Decor and motifs in Dresden residential buildings of the Wilhelminian era. In: Aesthetics and science. Contributions to restoration and preservation of monuments. Workbook 8. State Office for Monument Preservation Saxony o . J. [2006], p. 160, edited). Almost all decorative painting work in the second court theater (Semperoper) was carried out by Andreas Wilhelm Schaberschul (1830–1903) and his company. The scraper school from Moravia worked as an assistant at the Freye company from 1853 to 1859. During this time he was involved in painting work in the picture gallery. In the early 1860s he became a citizen of Saxony. He founded his own painting company in Dresden, which specialized in decorative paintings in the Renaissance style . It can be assumed that Schaberschul's Renaissance ornamentation caused Semper's influence. In addition, Andreas Schaberschul designed plans for the White Hall of the Berlin Palace and for the Johanneum in Dresden. The remarkable painting of the Hartmannsche Villa, built in 1874, Laubegaster Ufer 33 in Dresden-Laubegast is attributed to him (from: Sterra, Bernhard, Michael Müller and Eric Stenzel: The art in the house - an introduction. In: The art in the house? Staircase paintings in Dresden Residential houses).
  7. The wall at Österreicher Straße 77-85 originally belonged to the Hartmannschen Villa (Laubegaster Ufer 33). Only the southern, slightly set back section of Österreicher Straße 85 has a slightly different story. Today's parcels 8a (= Laubegaster Ufer 33), 8/2 (= Laubegaster Ufer 34), 8b (= Österreicher Straße 79), 8/1 (Österreicher Straße 81 and 83), 8/4 (Österreicher Straße 77) and the northern half of parcel 7/1 (= Österreicher Straße 85) emerged from the common parcel 8 of the estate of director Gustav Hartmann from Berlin. Gustav Hartmann acquired the southern half of today's parcel 7/1 (originally 7a) on August 8, 1893 for 12,000 marks. There are drafts for the construction of a water tower and a well for the former parcel 7a, both of which were probably carried out. It is possible that the last, recessed piece of the wall (which, by the way, corresponds to the width of the former parcel 7a) was only added after Gustav Hartmann bought it, while the other wall sections are oldera. But it could also have been created independently of the other parts. In any case, in 1895 the entire wall was part of Hartmann's possession. The complex is therefore not only a monumental and high-quality example of the masonry construction of the time, but also an important preserved part of Hartmann's villa, which is undoubtedly one of the most important mansions in Dresden. The wall forms a unit of monument value with the main thing, the villa. In addition, it makes the dimensions of the former Hartmann estate after Österreicher Straße clear in an impressive way. It is thus the counterpart to the Elbe-side enclosure, which is reinforced by flood baffle walls.
  8. Laubegast shipyard
The Sächsisch Böhmische Dampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft (SBDG) founded in 1837 first built a shipyard in Dresden-Blasewitz in 1855, which served as a repair shop and winter storage facility for its own ships and from 1858 also built new buildings (side paddle steamers for Elbe shipping). In 1896, the SBDG acquired the property of the Oswald Spalteholz steam sawmill in Laubegast and set up a new shipyard here. In addition to the existing buildings that have been converted into office, social and storage rooms - the cutting mill, a wood store, an office building and a residential building - two new buildings by the architects Lossow & Viehweger, an elongated workshop building with a power station and a warehouse building were added in 1897/98. In 1898, the entire shipyard equipment, including the slipway and the associated carousel earth winches, was moved from Blasewitz to Laubegast and shipyard operations began. In the period that followed, the shipyard's mechanical equipment was mainly modernized, so a large air hammer was used for blacksmithing from 1907 and several pneumatic hammers from 1910. It was not until 1927 that the slipway was replaced by a new slip system with ten slip cars, which were moved on the associated small railroad tracks with the help of electrically powered winches. At the same time, a 400-horsepower steam locomotive replaced the central 100-horsepower steam engine, so that the group drive of the machine tools in the workshop building could now take place by means of power and individual drives instead of a main transmission shaft.
As early as 1922, the SDBG and with it the shipyard were taken over by the New German-Bohemian Elbe Shipping Company (NDBG). Nothing changed in the production profile, the shipyard continued to build ships for the parent company, but also barges, ferries and dam passenger ships. Another important field of activity was repair and maintenance. In times of a lack of shipbuilding orders, the shipyard also manufactured agricultural machinery in the 1920s and jetty bridges in the 1930s. Until 1945 it therefore operated under the name "Schiffswerft und Maschinenfabrik Dresden-Laubegast". During the Second World War, in addition to two motor ships, several pioneer work boats and later parts for submarine pressure hulls were made in Laubegast. During this time, only the carpentry shop experienced a small extension in 1940, other planned buildings could no longer be built.
After 1945, dismantling also took place in Laubegast, but shipbuilding operations could start again from 1948. As VEB Schiffsreparaturwerft Laubegast, the company was initially engaged in repair work, and from around 1958 onwards, it was also possible to build new ships - including mostly ferries, push boats and motor barges. In 1961, the slip system therefore received more modern slip trolleys with electro-hydraulic lifting devices. Even after privatization in 1991, the shipyard carried out the repair and maintenance work on the steamers of the Saxon Steamship Company until it was closed in April 2013.
With the exception of the buildings of the former Spalteholz steam sawmill, which were demolished in 1995, the result is an ensemble whose essential functional buildings have been preserved and thus convey an authentic image of a shipyard from the turn of the century until well into the 20th century. Particularly noteworthy is that the company used the location and the main technical systems until the current closure in an unbroken tradition and, through the large number of new buildings for the SBDG as well as the repair and maintenance work of the associated Elbe steam ships, immediately with the (continued) existence the "White Fleet" is related. As the last example of a branch of industry that has shaped the economy of the city of Dresden since the middle of the 19th century, the buildings, technical systems and equipment elements of the Laubegast shipyard are of great importance for the industrial and technical history of Dresden and Saxony. The striking facade of the shipbuilding hall is also to be seen as defining the townscape for Laubegast. today specializes in the reconstruction of historical paddle steamers.
Description of the components of the ensemble:
    • Workshop building, built in 1897/98, design by Lossow & Viehweger: three-aisled, approximately 85-meter-long hall with a basilica cross-section, divided from southeast to northwest into three main technical production units: mechanical workshop, steel shipbuilding with forge and ship carpentry, some with long galleries in the aisles for additional workshops and storage rooms. Solid construction with steel support structure and solid ceilings ("Small System"), above mansard roof with largely continuous ridge lantern and large roof windows, supported by iron trusses on two end supports. The facade is characterized on the long sides by several glare gables as well as by large segmented arched windows and two smaller segmented arched windows above each. Wall surfaces plastered over the sandstone plinth, window cornices and arches made of clinker masonry. On the south-eastern gable side the boiler house and machine house with chimney (base made of red, chimney made of yellow bricks) during the construction period, on the north-western gable side a joinery extension (massive flat building, design based on the old structure by using large segmented arched windows) from 1940.
    • Technical equipment in the workshop building: Crane system in the mechanical workshop, forge workshop in the steel shipbuilding department with fire places, workshop equipment, templates and tools as well as the air hammer from 1907 (Beché type with 100 kg bear) and a shearing machine (short shear knife, made by Carl Röhling Maschinenfabrik Gera, Portuguese-language nameplates possibly reference to previous location in Portugal).
    • Magazine building, built in 1898, design by Lossow & Viehweger: solid construction with flat saddle roof, facade design and window shapes analogous to the workshop building, window axes here, however, accentuated by risalits or suspected pillars. Inside there is a cast-iron support structure, Prussian cap ceiling over the ground floor. The room layout has changed significantly, especially on the upper floor.
    • Slip system, built in 1927, draft / execution WUMAG shipyard in Übigau: ten-track (narrow-gauge), with ten electro-hydraulically operated slip cars (probably built in 1961), are moved with the help of electrically driven winches, central control from a winch house (small half-timbered building with tent roof ), still operational today.
