Detailed memorial texts

  1. With its systematic integration into the urban structure, the Prussian Quarter area is an important testimony to Dresden's urban planning in the second half of the 19th century. Despite the diversity of the facades of the individual buildings, a largely uniform, moderately designed, leafy district with open architecture is included high quality of living available. A representative effect is achieved through the successful interplay of building and gardening art. The horticultural design of the Elbe side blends in with the cityscape in a formative manner in the spacious flow of the right Elbe front.
Protected status : (1) The spatial scope of this statute includes the area listed in the plan on a scale of 1: 5000. The graphic representation on a scale of 1: 5000 is decisive for the delimitation of the area. The plan is part of the statutes.
    (2) The protection status serves to preserve the street and square images and the town plan. There is a special public interest in preservation for historical, urban and landscaping reasons.
The subject of the protection is:
    a) the existing building structure that characterizes the ensemble with the respective proportions between the built-up and the undeveloped property areas as well as the structural differentiation between the main and auxiliary buildings.
    b) the traditional ridge and eaves heights as well as the spacing areas to neighboring buildings in their proportionality to the typical structure of the surrounding area.
    c) the existing appearance of the streets, paths and squares including furnishings and avenue planting.
    d) the property enclosures facing the street and those facing the Körnerweg in their traditional character and their landscape-related design.
    e) the park-like gardens south of Bautzner Straße as a typical local location of a single house development (solitary) and other gardens that characterize the area, including their equipment and landscape elements such as B. Terraces, open stairs and plantings.
    f) the characteristic shape of the external appearance in its edge area to the Elbe area as well as the visual relationships. (from: Official announcement, “Statute of the state capital Dresden for the monument protection area Radeberger Vorstadt - Prussian Quarter from 03/18/1999”).
  2. The outbuilding, which was apparently built and used as a coach house, forms a unit of monument value with the Villa Arndtstraße 2, which was built around 1895, for functional and design reasons. In addition, it is one of the most originally preserved and most attractive historicizing Remise buildings in the urban area of Dresden. Stepped gables , stylized coats of arms and pointed arches are reminiscent of Gothic forms. The brick frieze under the eaves and the forged door fittings set additional accents. Apart from the fact that one has the impression that something unusual has been created here, the neo-Gothic coach house building is likely to be a rarity. The property of a monument arises from the historical building value for the historicizing architecture at the end of the 19th century, from the artistic significance, since the aesthetic sensibility is addressed to a particular degree, and the rarity value already indicated (LfD / 1999).
  3. a b The villa and the garden with a solitary tree, fence and retaining walls at Bautzner Strasse 102 in Dresden form an inseparable unit of monument value. The villa building type has its origins in Roman antiquity, when luxurious houses in the countryside were called villas, even if they were not the focus of an agricultural enterprise. There has been a revival since the 16th century. For manorial single-family houses from the second half of the 19th century, the villa in front of the city, which was only used for living, was the historical forerunner. The landscape also belonged to their intellectual heritage, not the free, but the cultural landscape designed by humans. The park, the garden and finally the little garden and lawn remained indispensable for every villa until well into the 20th century. The garden was indispensable as a setting for the villa for another reason. He created the necessary distance to the outside world as far as possible from the street. The villa, built between 1854 and 1856, is a historically sophisticated building. The triangular gable, arched opening, acanthus in the entablature and grooved ground floor are late classicist, with the three-part and horizontal division of the façades also an example of the Semper-Nicolai school that dominated Dresden around 1875, a variant of the neo-renaissance. Balanced facade design, the extension on the garden side is probably a later ingredient, temporary residence of Hugo Zietz , the owner of the oriental tobacco and cigarette factory Yenidze .
The testimonial value for historicism and the quality of the formal implementation justify the architectural and artistic importance of the property. The striking residential building also documents the classic villa type of its time in a clear and easily understandable way. In connection with the extensive outdoor facilities that affect the Elbe, Villa Bautzner Straße 102 is also of importance in terms of landscape design and urban development (LfD / 2016).
  4. The former Wigman School at Bautzner Strasse 107 in Dresden fulfills the requirements of a cultural monument within the meaning of Section 2, Paragraph 1 of the SächsDSchG. Because of the special cultural-historical, local and personal historical significance and the largely authentic condition, there is a public interest in preservation. From 1920 onwards, Bautzner Strasse 107 was the dance school of Mary Wigman (1886–1973), a German dancer, choreographer and dance teacher with international reputation, for a good twenty years . She is considered to be one of the most influential pioneers of rhythmic-expressive expressive dance, which between 1920 and 1935 experienced its heyday not only in Germany. Like no other, Wigman shaped dance history in Germany in the first half of the 20th century. It had an audience of millions and countless students in Dresden and its branches, Gret Palucca (1902–1993) being one of the most important . During her numerous tours, Mary Wigman toured Germany and neighboring countries with her chamber dance group. She first performed in London in 1928 and in the United States in 1930. The former dance school is a group of buildings consisting of a street-side villa and three halls at the rear. With a friend's money, Wigman acquired the Villa Bautzner Strasse 107 in Dresden in 1920 and had it redesigned for your purposes. The rear hall extensions were then added from 1926–1927 based on designs by the architect Otto Geiler . Under pressure from the National Socialists, the artist left Dresden in 1942/43. The property was only slightly damaged during World War II . Apart from the elevation of the roof of the large hall building after 1945, all essential structural elements have been preserved in the extension wing. The former enclosure was replaced by molded concrete walls during GDR times, which are also worth preserving. The importance for Dresden results from the position in the cultural life of the city at that time. There was a "Society of Friends of the Mary Wigman Dance Troupe". With the support of society and public funds, the expansion of the school could be financed. Prominent guests of the city such as the Indian philosopher Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) visited the Wigman School. The group of buildings to be assessed here is reminiscent of Mary Wigman of a world artist and is therefore not only of national but also international importance. The extensions were implemented at the instigation of the dancer, choreographer and dance teacher. With this, the presence of Wigman in the former school has also materialized (LfD / 2018).

The villa built around 1910 by the architects Stephan and Möbius (architect's mark on the pillars of the driveway) is a high-quality example of upscale living culture at the beginning of the 20th century. The sophisticatedly designed building with a high hipped roof shows simplified classical and baroque elements, including pilaster strips, etc., as they were typical for the period after 1900. He is also part of the oevre of the Stephan und Möbius architectural office, which had a decisive influence on the construction of villas in Dresden between the turn of the century and the First World War. Many of the mansions of the apparently prosperous office are now located in Loschwitz, especially in the area of Heideparkstraße and Böhmerstraße (now part of the Radeberger Vorstadt district), but also in Zschärtnitz and other parts of the city. The monument value of Böhmertstraße 6 results primarily from its building historical value. In addition, with its noble design, which thrives on a few accentuating decorative and structural elements, it also has an artistic value (LfD / 2013).

The Wohnhausgruppe 7.9.11 was built around 1910 by the architect Stephen and Moebius. The Stephan und Möbius company is one of the better-known Dresden architecture firms from the beginning of the 20th century. Numerous villas and houses in Loschwitz and other Dresden districts come from her, but especially in the Fischhausstrasse and Heideparkstrasse area. One of the better known buildings, the Hotel Reichspost, was destroyed in World War II. Most of the buildings by Stephan and Möbius, including Fischhausstraße 7/9/11, were built in line with the reform architecture that was prevalent at the time. In response to the overly ornate buildings of the Wilhelminian era, the architects developed the reform architecture after 1900, an objectified construction method that was characterized by well-proportioned forms and few, merely accentuating facade decorations. The group of residential buildings to be assessed here, with its simple but at the same time noble design, is a characteristic example of the architectural development described and thus significant in terms of architectural history. An art-historical value can also be established as part of the work of the well-known Dresden office Stephan und Möbius. The historical significance of Fischhausstrasse 7/9/11 results from its architectural and art historical significance. Their monument worthiness results from the exemplary value for the architectural development in Germany around 1910 and from the fact that the monument quality and the necessity of the preservation are recognized in any case by a broad group of experts. Comparable buildings can be found in numerous monument topographies in other federal states (LfD / 2007).
