As the only urban development axis in Dresden from the first half of the 18th century, which has largely been preserved with its original development, Königstraße is of singular importance. 6. Monument text: The Sachsenbad and the library and residential building on the corner of Wurzener Strasse in the Pieschen district of Dresden were built in 1929 as a dominant feature of an extensive sports park, surrounded by several small housing estates, based on a design by the city building councilor Paul Wolf. Both were connected by a covered corridor, which was also intended as access to the adjacent sports field. On a building plan for Dresden-Pieschen from April 1941, one can understand his intentions very nicely, as some of it remained unfinished. Here you can also guess an outdoor pool planned to the north. The green square in the corner between Wurzener Straße and Rehefelder Straße completed the ensemble. The large indoor swimming pool and the municipal public library were planned as the social and urban center of the quarter, which combined different functions such as education, sport and living. The connection with the apartment block by the architect Hans Richter to the south, a complex built very consistently in the Bauhaus style, is unmistakable, as it goes in the same architectural direction. The fact that Wolf planned it as part of a green corridor from Leipziger Strasse in the south to the railway line in the north is also relevant to the outdoor facilities.
The totality of the Sachsenbad is one of the most impressive Dresden ensembles of New Building, which explains its architectural and artistic importance. The entire system is undoubtedly a rarity. As an outstanding urban project of the Weimar Republic that combined functions such as education, sport and living, it also has a local and socio-historical value (LfD / 2015).

  9. Monument text: The housing estate planned on behalf of the Dresdner Spar- und Bauverein was built in 1929/30 on the basis of planning by the architects Paul Beck and Leo Hoese in the area of the fork between Boxdorfer and Volkersdorfer Straße. The settlement was carried out in two phases: the first construction section, Boxdorfer-Volkersdorferstraße, was built in rows, the second, somewhat more recent construction section includes the buildings on Hellerauerstraße. According to Willimartin Romberger's plans, it is built in a closed perimeter block development. The four-storey head building of the facility is located in the fork area of the two streets. It has large loggias and bears the signature of the building association. The buildings placed behind it, in order to ensure the best possible light supply, have a north-south orientation and are three-storey. On the recessed corner buildings (four-storey) there are stand bay windows that are placed across corners. All houses are simply cleaned and have hip roofs. The window bars are another decorative element. The complex is a testimony to the housing developments in Dresden in the late twenties and is shaped by traditional ideas and ideas of the New Objectivity. Their monument value results from the building and social history as well as the townscape-defining importance (LfD / 2013).
  10. Monument text: The so-called Palmie houses, comprising 203 residential units, were built between 1912–14 and 1926, the design comes from the architect Heinrich Koch. The buildings are three-story with extended mansard roofs, the roof zone is loosened up by various dormers and attic houses, the facades are structured by cornices and roofs as well as highlighted plaster surfaces. The entrances are designed with small porticos. It is interesting to try to make the inner courtyards very relaxed and different. Balconies are secondary. The buildings are of importance in terms of town planning and building history (LfD / 2001).
  11. ^ Settlement to the good hope Pieschen with the following individual monuments: Duckwitzstrasse 1-2d and Großenhainer Strasse 162/164 (ID-Nr. 09216595), Duckwitzstrasse 3-5d (ID-Nr. 09216613), Duckwitzstrasse 4-6d (ID-Nr. 09216597 ), Duckwitzstraße 7-7d (ID-Nr. 09216612), Duckwitzstraße 8-8d (ID-Nr. 09216598), Duckwitzstraße 9-9d (ID-Nr. 09216611), Duckwitzstraße 10-10d (ID-Nr. 09216599), Duckwitzstraße 11-11c (ID-Nr. 09216610), Duckwitzstraße 12-12c (ID-Nr. 09216600), Duckwitzstraße 13-13d (ID-Nr. 09216609), Duckwitzstraße 14-14d (ID-Nr. 09216601), Duckwitzstraße 15 -15c (ID-Nr. 09216608), Duckwitzstraße 16-16c (ID-Nr. 09216602), Duckwitzstraße 17-17d (ID-Nr. 09216607), Duckwitzstraße 18-18d (ID-Nr. 09216603), Duckwitzstraße 19-21b (ID-No. 09216605), Duckwitzstraße 20-22b (ID-No. 09216604), Duckwitzstraße 23-26 (ID-No. 09216606) as well as the front gardens and enclosures as a whole; Elongated complex between two gatehouses, consisting of rows of terraced houses and small multi-family houses with spacious front gardens and picket fence, alternating courtyard formation through recessed buildings, characteristic example of small apartment and settlement construction around 1930 in Dresden, important in terms of architectural and urban development history.
  12. ↑ Based on designs by the Dresden architect Hans Richter (1882–1971), between Moltkestrasse (since 1946 Robert-Matzke-Strasse), Rehefelder and Wurzener Strasse, a modern GEWOBAG-Dresden residential complex with shops, a district heating plant and a central laundry was built between 1926–28. The GEWOBAG residential complex was ready for occupancy at the end of 1928, the current owner and manager is the GAGFAH GROUP Dresden. The elongated block of the buildings on Arno-Lade-Straße 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 shows a modern style with the flat roof end, the transverse rectangular, three-part windows, the continuously glazed stairwells and the cubic height dominants on the block sides Image. This also includes those with smooth facades and the loggias. In addition to Richter's large Trachau estate, the complex is a significant example of New Building and Classical Modernism in Saxony, of particular architectural and art-historical value, and as part of Hans Richter's oeuvre also of artistic importance. Together with the Sachsenbad and the library directly opposite, it also forms an unmistakable ensemble of exceptional urban development significance (LfD / 2014).
  13. At the beginning of the 1930s, settlements were built on the former vineyard area "zum wilden Mann". Bolivarstrasse was laid out in 1931 in connection with the construction of new residential buildings on the former boundary between Trachau and Pieschen. In the overall concept, the houses on Bolivarstrasse (2-88), Döbelnerstrasse (77/79) and Virchowstrasse (27/78) as the "Am Alten Weingut Wilder Mann" settlement refer to the settlement on Duckwitzstrasse "Zur Gute Hoffnung". The residential buildings on Bolivarstrasse were built from 1930 for the General Saxon Settlers Association (ASSV), with the design planning being the responsibility of the architect Paul Müller. All apartments were given separate entrances and allotments, which should serve the self-sufficiency of the members of the association with fruit and vegetables. The settlement, which was moved into in 1931, is now owned by the non-profit housing association “Am alten Weingut Wilder Mann” and has been a listed building since 1994. This cooperative was formed in September 1933 under pressure from the National Socialists from the union-oriented ASSV and is the smallest housing cooperative in Dresden. The row houses on Bolivarstrasse are simple and two-story, the simply plastered buildings have spacious front gardens. In front of the fence, usually a picket fence, there is again a strip of green overgrown with trees, which defines the street scene and covers the houses. Each two apartments share a covered vestibule, which can be accessed separately. Traditional style elements such as hip roofs, perforated facades, dormers and picket fences determine the character of the complex. Separate three-story houses (house numbers 2, 56, 58, 88) also belong to the settlement complex; they are located at the intersection of Virchowstrasse, Döbelnerstrasse and Grossenhainerstrasse. The single houses are closer to the street and frame the long row of houses. The buildings, which are also simply plastered, are dominated by a cubic entrance area and a box-like, recessed staircase. The loggias were previously open. These elements point to the objectivity of the reform architecture of this time. The largely authentically preserved buildings refer to the structural development of Pieschen around 1930, which is how they acquire their significance in terms of urban development history, and they are also of architectural significance. The public interest in preservation of the settlement to be assessed arises from the exemplary character of the architectural development around 1930. In addition, there is the fact that comparable facilities in other federal states are treated and published as monuments (LfD / 2013).

Monument text: The historical significance of the HGS settlement in Strehlen results from its documentary value for the development of architecture during the Weimar Republic. The complex, which was built between 1926 and 1928, is a characteristic example of the construction of small apartments and settlements of the time and, moreover, of the Expressionism style that was predominant in architecture at the time. Small apartments and housing developments were a typical construction task after 1918, with which one tried to counter the extent of the housing shortage at the time. The HGS settlement in Strehlen forms an unmistakable ensemble in terms of urban development history and thus also establishes an urban development value. Their semi-detached houses and rows of houses are appealingly related to the local street and square situation. Excitingly staggered building lines create an urban spatial effect. The artistic importance of the HGS settlement results from the fact that the striking buildings of the complex with their clearly structured facades, their well-proportioned structures and the few but accentuating structural and decorative elements of Expressionism appeal to the aesthetic sensibility to a particular degree. This is reinforced by the distinctive urban ensemble effect (LfD / 2014).

Monument text: The complex consists of 11 semi-detached and 7 four-family houses (50 apartments in total), which are distributed in a relaxed but symmetrical arrangement over the property areas. The Alsenstrasse leading into the settlement ends as a dead end with a space-like widening. Two-storey, eaves-standing timber houses in block construction, with extended pitched roofs and gabled risalits on the long sides (comparable to the buildings of the Naußlitz timber house settlement), the gable triangles for the most part vertically paneled. The sliding shutters in front of the windows, which have often been preserved, are particularly worth mentioning. Exterior wall surfaces (often only the weather side) subsequently clad with bitumen shingles. The enclosures, some of which are still typical of the construction period, harmoniously round off the current appearance of the settlement. The wooden housing estate from the 1920s, which has been preserved in a completely closed manner, is significant for Dresden in terms of architectural history, and can also be described as unique as probably the only wooden houses of the Lower Sedlitz company Höntsch & Co. still largely preserved in their original condition. Furthermore, as an authentic example of the construction of small flats and settlements at the time, the complex is of importance both in terms of urban planning and social history (LfD / 2013).
  27. Monument text: The "Dresden-Stetzsch settlement", which is protected as a whole, was built in 1921-24 based on a design by the architect Prof. Dr. Otto Schubert (1878–1968). As early as 1914, the cooperative "Kleinwohnungs-Bauverein Dresden" was planning the construction of a small housing estate in the municipality of Stetzsch - entirely under the impression of the building cooperative in Hellerau. However, this could only be completed after the First World War. Sixty apartments were built in four row houses, defining the two long rows of houses parallel to the Seegärten street. The single-storey buildings with extended, high pitched roofs, apart from a few exceptions for design reasons, are formally committed to the Heimat style. The characteristic settlement complex of the 1920s is part of the overall work of the architect Otto Schubert, who shaped Dresden's architecture in the first half of the 20th century. The complex is significant in terms of architectural history and, as an authentically preserved example of the construction of small flats and settlements at the time, is also of social historical importance (LfD / 2013).

Monument text: The "Volksheim Kaditz settlement", which is a listed building as a whole, consists of a total of 11 buildings with enclosing walls and landscaping between An den Hufen, Andersenstraße, Grimmstraße and Gustav-Schwab-Straße. The residential complex of the building cooperative Volksheim Dresden, built in 1927–1930 according to plans by the architect Martin Mitzscherling, consisted of approx. 210 residential units. Due to the fact that the apartments were equipped with a bathroom, internal toilet and loggia, as well as the provision of small gardens that were used for private purposes, in keeping with the social reformation concept of the time, the buildings were among the most progressive, modern residential buildings in the city. The three-story, traditionally designed buildings with axially perforated facades and hipped roofs are enlivened by expressionist elements such as clinker strips, triangular skylights and cantilevered bay windows.

Monument text: In the area of the "Community settlement Kaditz", which is classified as a whole, 17 two-story single and semi-detached houses were grouped as so-called "people's apartment buildings" along Kötzschenbroder Straße, between Fürstenhainer Straße and Seewiesenweg, around green courtyards and a square. The planning of the 1936-39 facility was the responsibility of the Dresden City Planning Office. At that time, the well-known architect Paul Wolf was responsible for building construction and urban renewal as the town planning officer. The buildings with people's apartments were given preference to large families with low incomes. The complex, now known as the “Kaditz Family Residential Park”, was extensively renovated in 1998-2000. Balcony extensions and external thermal insulation were attached. The elongated multi-family houses in traditional construction with a gable roof are characterized by their simple, harmonious-looking construction. Using design elements such as rubble stone plinths, smooth plastered surfaces, framing of the shop fixtures with clinker bricks and color-contrasting shutters, the residential complex conveys traditional construction forms. The area is accessed from Kötzschenbroder Straße through a gate situation made up of two buildings with shop fittings on the ground floor. Behind it, the Seewiesenweg widens into a small square, the green areas are separated from the traffic areas by hedges. In Seewiesenweg 8 there was formerly a shop on the ground floor, today the building is used exclusively for residential purposes.

Flat-roofed hall, above the altar marble relief by Johannes Schilling depicting an angel putting a wreath on a man kneeling in front of him, a woman bends over to it (Joh. 10). - The cemetery contains a wealth of historically interesting tombs, figural tombstones and crypt buildings from the Baroque, Rococo and Classicism periods (material almost without exception sandstone), some with magnificent wrought-iron gates and borders: crypt structure and memorial for the court sculptor Gottfried Knöffler († 1779) and his Ms. Sophie Charlotte Thomae († 1782), small free-standing building on the west side, inside the former partially gilded sarcophagus, standing on lion's paws and created by Knöffler himself (around 1761?). - Gregory crypt: late baroque building on the west side, above the basket arch portal with a beautiful wrought iron gate a richly framed Rococo cartouche with the year 1754. Inside several wall graves. At the cemetery wall on Conradstrasse there is an approx. 130-year-old row of oak stems, which has an important design significance for the cemetery.
  32. Monument text: The burial site on Merbitzer Strasse, which is now usually referred to as the “Innerer Briesnitz Cemetery”, emerged from the old churchyard around the church of St. Marien. The deceased parishioners of the entire Briesnitz Parish, consisting of 26 places, were buried here. Colloquial path names such as Oberer Leichenweg and Ockerwitzer Leichenweg remind of the need to transport the dead from the surrounding villages. The cemetery complex was enlarged several times and wall plans were added. Today, the approximately 1.8 hectare site is enclosed by enclosure walls and fences, including four entrance gates and ornamental grilles. Worth mentioning is the extension to the north around 1910, in which there is a war memorial for those who fell in World War I. The "Inner Briesnitz Cemetery", protected as a whole, is in its grown functional and design unit with the celebration hall (1896), the grave fields A - K2, numerous monumental graves and two war memorials (the younger, monumental complex with enclosing walls, stairs, hedges and rows of trees) Significant building and local history. With its structured system of paths, the structure and space-creating planting and interesting views of the Elbe landscape, the cemetery also has garden and landscape design value (LfD / 2013).
  33. The church, which can be seen from afar, is a hall building with a distinctive west tower and, as it was first mentioned in a document in 1237, it can be proven that it is one of the oldest sacred buildings in Dresden. The Emmauskirche (Laurentiuskirche until 1904) was destroyed in the Hussite Wars in 1429/30, then rebuilt. Around 1500 the church building was rebuilt as a late Gothic hall with a striking west tower. The oldest, late Gothic parts of the building date from this time. Badly damaged by fire around 1637 and rebuilt, extensive renovations took place in the Baroque period from 1750–56 (including the interior design). Around 1680 the tower gables were redesigned in the Renaissance style. At the beginning of the 19th century, extensive repairs were carried out by master carpenter Johann Christian Ziller . In 1869 the exterior renovation of the church in the neo-Gothic style began by the Ziller brothers . They redesigned the interior in a neo-Gothic style in 1887/1888. A large number of art-historically significant interior parts have been preserved, including a wooden pulpit altar by Gottfried Knöffler (1756) and the Jehmlich organ with a neo-Gothic prospect. The bells of the church tower were cast in 1676/77 and originally hung in the Dresden Sophienkirche. The park-like churchyard with its imposing large greenery (court lime tree), bordered by a wall with three entrances and gates, shows in an exemplary way, both in its structure and its design, a cemetery culture that has grown over centuries. The oldest historical tombs date from the years 1730–1750. A number of high-quality tombs from the 19th century have also been preserved, as well as a war memorial for those who died in the two world wars. The Protestant Emmaus Church and the surrounding cemetery are of great importance in terms of local history and landscape design as well as being of supraregional importance in terms of art and building history (LfD / 2013).
