The state capital Dresden , also known as " Florence on the Elbe " , not least because of its partly Baroque and Mediterranean architecture in the scenic location on the river , has a large number of cultural monuments. According to the information provided by the Office for Culture and Monument Protection, the Lower Monument Protection Authority of Dresden, their total number is around 9,300 cultural monuments and objects - the majority of them are also looked after by the municipal office. The cultural monuments were recorded in the relevant registers by the Free State's Upper Monument Protection Authorities, the State Office for Monument Preservation of Saxony and the State Office for Archeology , which are also located in Dresden .
Buildings make up the largest proportion of cultural monuments, especially residential buildings. In addition, churches, cemeteries and numerous famous buildings in the city center such as the Semperoper and Zwinger , but also parks and ponds as well as collections and individual building parts such as doors are protected as cultural monuments.
The districts Neustadt, Pieschen, Trachau, Hellerau, Loschwitz and Weißer Hirsch are particularly rich in cultural monuments on the right bank of the Elbe. On the left bank of the Elbe, Blasewitz, Striesen, Strehlen, Löbtau and Plauen have a high density of cultural monuments. In the historical city center and its immediate surroundings, also mostly located on the left bank of the Elbe, the density of cultural monuments is about average in urban comparison due to high losses as a result of the air raids on Dresden in 1945. Eight sub-areas of the city were declared as monument protection areas, including the Dresden Elbe slopes from Pillnitz to the Waldschlößchenbrücke , the Prussian Quarter , the settlement in Briesnitz and the historic village center of Laubegast . The cultural landscape of Dresden Elbe Valley , in which numerous districts close to the Elbe played a part, was protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site from 2004 to 2009 .
The list is based on the Dresden themed city map, on which all the cultural monuments recorded by the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Saxony are marked. It was divided into individual lists according to the 109 Dresden districts . These lists name the individual monuments and their addresses, indicate their location via a link, show a picture of them and describe them briefly. However, they do not differentiate between the type of cultural monument, since this subdivision is not provided for by law in Saxony. In a further overview , the streets in which there are cultural monuments are compared to the districts.
