List of found footage movies (narration method)

The term found footage (German: Found footage ) is now on two very different film genres applied. Therefore two separate lists are kept.

This list only contains found footage films whose “found”, pseudo-documentary material was actually staged by the filmmakers themselves. In this narrative method, which is particularly (but not exclusively) used in horror films, the plot is often about recordings that are assigned to deceased or missing people and are only found afterwards. Other (alleged) sources of the material may e.g. B. be surveillance cameras . In any case, the cameras used to shoot the feature film are more or less props within the narrative.

Differentiation from material appropriation:

Originally, only those works were referred to as found footage films that consist entirely or partially of foreign material that was not shot or conceived by the filmmakers themselves. This sub-genre occurs most frequently in the field of experimental and avant-garde films.

Such films do not belong here, but rather in the list of found footage films (material appropriation) .
