MAZ-7906

An MZKT-79221 , which has a similar basic structure as the MAZ-7906

The MAZ-7906 was a prototype of a heavy wheeled vehicle that was manufactured in the Minsky Avtomobilny Zavod in the 1980s .

History and planned use

The vehicle was designed to be used as a mobile rocket launch pad. The plan was to be able to operate the railroad-based RT-23 missile system more independently. For this purpose, two different prototypes were manufactured in the MAZ factory in the mid-1980s, the MAZ-7906 and the MAZ-7907 . The project, which was also carried out under the name Zelina-2, was never put into practice.

The MAZ-7906 was a little smaller than the similar MAZ-7907. It only has eight axles, with the rear four and two in the front arranged as a group. Exact technical data on the vehicle are unknown, but approximate dimensions can be derived from the planned application. The rocket to be transported had a length of a little over 23 meters, a diameter of around 2.4 meters and a launch weight of 104.5 tons. This had to be able to be moved by the MAZ-7906.

The whereabouts of the vehicle is unknown.
