The MAZ-206 ( Russian МАЗ-206 , German transcription actually MAS-206) is a bus model from the Belarusian vehicle manufacturer Minski Avtomobilny Sawod , which has been in series production since 2006. A variant for suburban traffic is also being produced under the name MAZ-226 .

In Minski Avtomobilny Sawod there had been tests with midibuses since 2000. First the prototype MAZ-106 was created, from which the MAZ-256 was later developed. It was built as the first midibus in Minsk from 2005.

In the following year, 2006, the factory began to manufacture the MAZ-206, a shortened version of the relatively new MAZ-203 . Many technical components have been adopted and both vehicles look very much the same. The buses are designed for inner-city routes with less traffic, for off-peak times or for roads that are difficult to drive with long vehicles.

The first prototypes were presented internally on June 14, 2006 and then exhibited at a Russian automobile fair. Series production began in the third quarter of 2006.

Model variants

Two fundamentally different versions of the vehicle are produced. The MAZ-206 is intended as a city bus and accordingly has fewer seats and more standing room. The MAZ-226, on the other hand, is designed for suburban traffic, in which fewer stops are approached at greater intervals. The number of seats has been increased from 25 to 31 compared to the MAZ-206. At the same time, the total number of passengers fell from 72 to 59 people. Externally, the buses do not differ, but the MAZ-226 has a lower permissible total weight of 12.6 tons than the MAZ-206 with 13.2 tons.

There are also three versions of the MAZ-206 city bus that differ in terms of their motorization:

  • MAZ-206.000 - Equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine from the Minsk engine plant. The MMZ-245.30 engine meets the Euro-2 emissions standard and, with 113 kW (154 hp), is the weakest engine available. The maximum speed with this engine is only 79 km / h.
  • MAZ-206.060 - Equipped with an imported Mercedes-Benz OM 904LA diesel engine . With 130 kW (176 PS) it is the top model and reaches a top speed of 100 km / h. In the past, the engine only met Euro-3, today Euro-4 and -5 are also available.
  • MAZ-206.070 - model version with four-cylinder diesel engine of the type Deutz BF4 M1013 FC, which produces 125 kW (170 hp). The top speed is 92 km / h and the emissions standard is Euro 3.
