The MAZ-7917 ( Russian МАЗ-7917 ), occasionally also transcribed as MAS-7917 , is a heavy Soviet truck built by Minsky Avtomobilny Zavod from 1984 to 1992 . It is the successor of the VTR 7912 and serves as a mobile missile launch pad for intercontinental ballistic missiles of the type RS-12M Topol .

The development of the MAZ-7917 is based on the predecessor MAZ-7912. The main problem was that the new ICBMs were longer than their predecessors. They protruded far back and forth over the existing chassis. At first an extended version of the MAZ-7916 was built on a trial basis , but the concept was discarded. Instead, prototypes of a new vehicle were created from 1982 by extending the MAZ-7912 by one meter. The MAZ-7917 can be recognized by the larger gaps between the three front axles and the modified cab.

The series production of the vehicles began in 1984 and ended after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1992. Until that time, 402 chassis were produced, of which in 1996 360 and 2002 330 in active service with the Russian army stood. The successor to the vehicles was the MZKT-79221 .
