The truck MAZ-529 ( Russian МАЗ-529 , German transcription actually MAS-529) is a single-axle tractor from the Soviet vehicle manufacturer Minsky Avtomobilny Sawod , which was developed from 1955. As of 1958, the production of this type was relocated to MoAZ as part of the specialization of the Soviet automotive industry and continued there under the name MoAZ-529 until 1969.

description

American models of heavy, single-axle tractors must have reached the Soviet Union before 1955. From 1955, tests were carried out with these vehicles to examine their possible uses. In 1956 a first prototype of such a tractor was built in Minski Avtomobilny Sawod (MAZ for short). This was also subjected to extensive tests. The aim was universal applicability. Trailers in the form of scrapers, cement mixers, simple flatbeds and even an artificial ice rink were built and tested.

After completing the tests, MAZ quickly started series production of the machines. In 1956 the Soviet automotive industry was so specialized that the complete train was no longer manufactured by MAZ. Only the tractor was still manufactured in Minsk, the trailer (a scraper in the series version) already at MoAZ. Since the tractor is not able to drive alone without a trailer, a much smaller support wheel was installed at the front for transport, which prevents the vehicle from tipping over. The support wheel was removed before normal operation.

The machines are not to be confused with the so-called single - axle tractors , even if they also only have one axle and are used as a tractor for attachments. A special feature of the vehicle is that no suspension was installed. Only the big tires are used for cushioning.

From 1961 an improved variant MAZ-529E was built at MoAZ . It had an increased output of 151 kW (205 PS) and was manufactured until 1969, when it was replaced by the MoAZ-546P.
