The MAZ-101 ( Russian МАЗ-101 , German transcription actually MAS-101), also MAZ-101 Neoplan , is a bus model from the Belarusian vehicle manufacturer Minski Avtomobilny Sawod , which was produced in series from 1993 to 1997. This is a license production of the N4014 NF low-floor bus manufactured by the German company Neoplan .

history

After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the vehicle manufacturer MAZ quickly established relationships with western companies in order to manufacture products for the Eastern European market that could be competitive with the imported vehicles. As early as 1992, the MAZ-101 Neoplan model was presented in cooperation with Neoplan , which was technically and visually very much based on the low-floor model Neoplan N4014NF.

However, the model sold so poorly in the years to come that production was discontinued in 1997. The main reason was that the price at $ 200,000 was in a range that was far too high. Instead, the successor MAZ-103 was presented in 1996 , which was offered for only 40% of the original price of the MAZ-101.

A total of only 39 vehicles of this type were produced, two of which remained at MAZ itself, and two were exported to Russia. The rest was used in Minsk local transport. By 2010, all vehicles there were retired and replaced by other types.

Visually, the later MAZ-101 vehicles differ from the MAZ-103 only in the changed type lettering on the front and in that the MAZ-103 only has one headlight on each side. The early MAZ-101 still had an undivided windshield like the Neoplan N4014 NF. Technically, the MAZ-103 is a completely different model.
