The MAZ-107 ( Russian МАЗ-107 , German transcription actually MAS-107) is a Belarusian bus model from the Minsky Avtomobilny Sawod , which has been in series production since 2004. The city bus , which is designed as a three-axle solo bus , is around 14.5 meters long.
Vehicle history
The history of the origins of bus production in Minsk, and with it the history of the MAZ-107, goes back to the 1980s. At that time, the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic did not have its own production of buses. Instead, all buses from Hungary were obtained from Ikarus . Around 200 to 300 new buses were required every year. By the end of the 1980s, however, deliveries were already falling significantly and with the collapse of the Soviet Union they dried up completely.
Remedy could not be found as quickly as actually needed. As the largest vehicle manufacturer in Belarus, MAZ entered into a cooperative with Neoplan in the early 1990s and built a licensed version of the Neoplan N4014 NF with the MAZ-101 from 1993. The problem was that the vehicle cost around US $ 200,000, which is too much for the Belarusian market. Instead, used Icarus buses were increasingly procured, for example from Germany. For the price of one MAZ-101, several vehicles could be purchased. In addition, the new low-floor technology and the associated chassis design of the MAZ-101 was susceptible to poor roads, which often led to chassis damage.
It was not until 1996 that the Minski Awtomobilny Sawod managed to present and produce a more suitable model with the MAZ-103 . The vehicle became significantly cheaper, partly because it used local and Russian technology. It only cost about US $ 80,000. Based on this model, the MAZ-105 , an articulated bus, and the three-axle MAZ-107 were created. The first prototypes of the latter were built in 2001 and series production began in 2004. As of 2017, the model is still largely unchanged. No three-axle solo vehicle exists from the manufacturer's second generation of buses around the MAZ-203 .
Components of the bus are also supplied by German companies. The six-cylinder diesel engine comes from Mercedes-Benz , the automatic transmission from Voith . In the course of time, slightly different versions of the engine were installed; they differ in terms of performance and emissions standards. Today the engine complies with Euro-4 or Euro-5, depending on customer requirements.
