Music genre

On the album, Heino interprets the rock and pop songs of artists as diverse as Peter Fox , Absolute Beginner , Rammstein and Die Ärzte in his typical folk style with a close relationship with Schlager . Heino himself described the songs he interpreted as "folk songs of the new generation".

Controversy

A report in the Bild newspaper on January 24, 2013 claimed that around the band Rammstein it was said that the band would find the cover version of their song Sonne zum Vomitzen . The band denied that on the same day. In addition, the band The Doctors prevented the publication of a music video for the song Junge by threatening to bring a six-figure claim for damages. Hot Action Records, the band's own record company , contradicted this claim. The Bildblog criticized the reporting as “precisely planned riot PR ”.

Heino described the original versions of the songs as "simple and modern knitted"; in terms of the range, they only moved in one octave. However, this is not meant negatively. The Fantastischen Vier wished Heino every success with his album via a Facebook entry. Heino himself did not comment on the reports from Bild, but noted that there had been "malicious comments" from some bands. They would sing of respect and tolerance, but he missed the appropriate behavior. He told Stern.de : "We want to leave it at that, that I did something for the guys who are always kidding me." The recordings weren't a big challenge and he enjoyed singing the songs.

Heino together with Rammstein at Wacken Open Air 2013

The music broadcaster VIVA reported on its website that it would not broadcast the music videos of Heino's versions. The organizers of the Wacken Open Air also spoke out against Heine's commitment after the metalcore band Callejon invited him to a joint performance at the festival. He is of no interest to her because he has nothing to do with metal . Nevertheless, Heino performed together with Rammstein at the Rock Festival Wacken 2013 and sang the song Sonne with them in front of 80,000 people . Dero Goi, singer of the band Oomph! , was dissatisfied with Heino's interpretation of her song Augen auf unsatisfied and accused the artist of Landser romance and folk-glorifying songs. Heino criticized him for this and advised him to look into the background of the folk songs he sang . The front singer of the band Die Toten Hosen , Campino called the album "tactically cleverly made", but was disappointed by the feature section that cheered this record so uncritically.

In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Heino said about the release of his new album:

“If I fall over now and am dead, then it will be the last album. You don't know. But I'm still as tough as Krupp steel, tough as leather and nimble as a greyhound . "

Various news websites indicated that this idiom was coined by Adolf Hitler in almost the same wording . In his speech on September 14, 1935 in front of 50,000 Hitler Youths, he used these words to describe how he wanted the German boys. Heino's manager Jan Mewes asserted that they had no knowledge of this historical context.

Heino had not obtained the covered artist's consent before publication , which Bild described as a “legal loophole”. In fact, the legal situation is such that registration of the reproduced cover version with the collecting society is sufficient for the use of the unchanged song material, which was adopted by the Federal Court of Justice in its case law. All affected artists are also registered with the collecting society GEMA , which is obliged to give permission to anyone who wants to cover a song, whereby the affected artists have no say. However, in order to be allowed to advertise the album with a title, the consent of the original artist is required. According to Heino, the album only contains songs whose original artists (or their record companies or management) had previously forbidden to advertise the album with their titles. This corresponds to the album title Sincerely, The Forbidden Album.

success

The album landed at number 1 on the Amazon.de album charts and number 1 on iTunes even before it was released . According to a report by Media Control , Sincerely, was legally downloaded more often from the Internet in the first three days than any album by a German-speaking artist before - this also applies to the entire first week, as was reported in retrospect. In an international comparison, only Mylo Xyloto (2011) from Coldplay had a more successful start. On February 11, 2013, Media Control announced that the album had entered the German charts at number 1; making it the first number one album in Heino's career. The titles Sonne and Haus am See were able to place themselves in the German charts due to downloads from the album without having been released as singles of their own . Together with the single Junge , it was Heino's first title in 23 years to make it into the German single charts.

On March 5, 2013 Heino was nominated for an echo in the category “Artist National Rock / Pop” , but was not considered at the award ceremony on March 21, 2013. In the show Do you understand fun? on March 9, 2013 Heino received a gold record for over 100,000 albums sold.

Reviews

Also due to the controversial reporting in advance, opinions about the album were divided. Opinions in the daily press in particular fluctuated from “involuntary comedy” to “successful experiment”.

“Twelve new interpretations of German pop, rock, punk and hip-hop creation (...), cover versions in the hit band style, arranged with great attention to detail and technically perfectly staged. (...) What a highlight! You just lift your sunglasses out of respect - before you push ear plugs into your ear canals. "

- Heiko Werning : taz.de

“Heino's homage to the modern age, which was jazzed up for revenge in the marketplace, has charm, wit and greatness. (...) Whether the album's charm will survive this year's carnival is questionable in view of the quickly reached saturation level. But the merchandising possibilities of the new blond angel of revenge from Bad Münstereifel are far from exhausted. "

- Jens Bauszus : FOCUS Online

“But with all this rowdy meta-discourse, how is the whole record now? Well, horrible, one is immediately tempted to say. And that's right too. The 12-song massiveness of Heino's very special vocal style (...) causes a headache - the sterile, guaranteed 100 percent computer-generated instrumentation does the rest. Nevertheless, the involuntary comedy of clueless intonations like 'Schillautheria' (in Sportfreunde Stiller's 'A compliment') is always appealing. It's all just a joke - enjoyed in moderation, even fun. "

- Linus Volkmann : Intro.de

The album was well reported in the music magazine Metal Hammer , where Heino's vocal performance and production received praise:

“The funny thing (and now the dark metal guys in particular have to be really strong): His deep, humming, sometimes fake voice, interspersed with rrrrolling style, is not far from what we hear every month through the METAL HAMMER. And: Nobody can seriously claim that Heinz Georg Kramm's vocal cords lack charisma, force or volume. The greatest praise, however, goes to producer Christian Geller and the people who arranged the material in such a way that the whole thing neither looks ridiculous nor pissed off - but simply entertains. "

- Matthias Weckmann : Metal hammer

The Musikexpress described the twelve songs on the album as "above all one thing: laborious" and judged the musical implementation:

“Mercilessly, all pieces get a few listless big band arrangements and the drum machine is missed, and 12 tracks are a bit too many. (...) Due to the completely arbitrary selection of the pieces and the always the same arrangements, 'Kind regards' unfortunately degenerates into a soulless PR coup. "

- Cosima Weiske : Musikexpress
