Mornshausen an der Salzböde or Mornshausen a. S. is a district of Gladenbach in the central Hessian district of Marburg-Biedenkopf . The river name as an addition to the name was necessary to distinguish it from the nearby Mornshausen an der Dautphe , a district of Dautphetal .

Geographical location

Mornshausen borders the core town of Gladenbach to the south-east, structurally almost integrated with it. The district is located on the northern left bank of the salt flats in the Gladenbacher Bergland and thus in the Lahn-Dill-Bergland Nature Park . 239 hectares of the municipal area are forested (status: 1961). The highest point in the south is the 448 meter high wooded Dreisberg .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1237 under the place name Moroldeshusen . In the Middle Ages silver mining was carried out in the district, and a smelter was also built. Several mills can still be found or preserved to this day. In 1924 the existing quarry was expanded.

In 1822, near Mornshausen, the post robbery took place in the Subach , made famous by the film The Sudden Wealth of the Poor People of Kombach .

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Mornshausen in 1830:

"Mornshausen on the Salzböthe (L. Bez. Gladenbach) evangel. Branch village; is 14 St. from Gladenbach, and is a poor village with 68 houses and 415 Protestant inhabitants. There are 4 grinding mills with which 2 oil mills are connected. Salty water has been discovered nearby, which is probably what the name Salzböthe, on which stream the place is located, refers. "

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Mornshausen a. S. merged by law with the city of Gladenbach and other communities in the Biedenkopf district on July 1, 1974 to form a city with the name Gladenbach . At the same time, the Biedenkopf district went into the Marburg-Biedenkopf district . For Mornshausen, as for all formerly independent municipalities and Gladenbach local districts, were established.

In Mornshausen there was a stop for the Aar-Salzböde-Bahn until 2001 . The track systems have been dismantled since 2006.

Territorial history and administration

The following list gives an overview of the territories in which Mornshausen was located and the administrative units to which it was subordinate:

Courts since 1821

In 1821, as part of the separation of the judiciary and administration, the jurisprudence was transferred to the newly created regional courts . From 1821 until it was assigned to Prussia in 1866, “Landgericht Gladenbach” was the name for the court of first instance in Gladenbach. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .

After the Biedenkopf district was ceded to Prussia as a result of the peace treaty of September 3, 1866 between the Grand Duchy of Hesse and the Kingdom of Prussia , the district of Gladenbach became Prussian. In June 1867 a royal decree was issued that reorganized the court system in the former Duchy of Nassau and the parts of the area that had previously belonged to the Grand Duchy of Hesse. The previous judicial authorities were to be repealed and replaced by local courts in the first, district courts in the second and an appeal court in the third instance. In the course of this, on September 1, 1867, the previous regional court was renamed the Gladenbach District Court. The courts of the higher instances were the District Court of Dillenburg and the Court of Appeal in Wiesbaden .

From October 1, 1944 to January 1, 1949, the Gladenbach District Court belonged to the Limburg District Court , but then again to the Marburg District Court . On July 1, 1968, the Gladenbach District Court was repealed, which from then on only served as a branch of the Biedenkopf District Court . On November 1, 2003, this branch was finally closed.
