concept
The Hallenstadion contains two halls that are arranged in an 8 inside the stadium. The 8 refers to the eighth year of the third millennium in which the games take place, at the same time symbolizes infinity as a horizontal 8 and, as a lucky number in Chinese mythology, strengthens the positive spirit of the games. According to the Nuremberg architectural office Glöckner , which is responsible for the design and was also responsible for the new building of the Leipzig Central Stadium (in community) and the Nuremberg Arena , "the roof and facade dissolve into one another and unite to form a comprehensive biomorphic unit" . At the same time, “the dynamics of the sports taking place in the arena are reflected in the rhythmic swing of the roof landscape”. The outdoor area is completed by eight so-called "Moon Lakes".
location
The National Indoor Stadium is located in the south of the Olympic site and is part of the Olympic Green . It lies on the main axis of the area and, together with the National Swimming Center at the second corner and the Beijing National Stadium at the third corner, forms an almost equilateral triangle.
